Well, well, well... This one should be quite interstin'...

Fir those of you who were late entering the "cover design" contest, here's yer opportunity to get in early and get yer name printed in the linear notes...

First of all, my performing name is "Sidewalk Bob" and when I have other folks playin' with me it's "Sidewalk Bob and the Pedestrians" but in this case, it's gonna be a solo album with no Pedestrians...

The songs were all recorded in Thaxton, Mississippi from August 30th to Sept. 3rd of this year... The only reason I bring this up is that Katrina hit on the 29th... I gave some thoughts to callin' it, "The Week of Katrina" but seein' as there's nothin' on the CD about Katrina" I decided not to... Plus it mighjt have seemed somewhat disrespectfull to the victims... I've also thought of just calling it "The Mississippi Sessions" and haven't ruled that out...

BTW, the CD will be a collection of blues songs done in the style of the great North Mississippi hill-country bluesmen, like Otha Turner, Fred McDowell and the late, R. L. Burnside but will also have a couple bluesified rock ("Season of the Witch" may make the cut) and country songs (Waylon Jennings "Waymores Blues)...

Now, seein' as Cluin has the recieved cover photos to mess with and is rearin' to go, I'm going to end this contest two days from now at the time that this post is postercated...

And... tahnk you ahead of time fir any thoughtfull contributions you make to this thread...

(Yes, and even you, MG, can enter. I can't wait to see what you come up with but I'm sure it will be entertaining...)

Bobert, alias Sidewalk Bob

"Ambling to Please"
"Mind the Cracks"
(I did think of "Feet of Clay" & "Delta Blow" & "Floods of Tears" & "Hand me down my Hurricane" but maybe not, in the circumstances)
Anything with "Baton Rouge" in it would be fine by me.
Is "Shank's Pony" a good expression in English(US)? (=walking instead of riding/driving))
"Kerbing Desire"
"Inn Junction"
"Walking Up a Thirst" (UK expression?)
"Takin' Steps"
"Steep Drive"
"Street Why's"
"Kickin Up the Dust"
"Stride with Pride"
"Avenue On"
"Tread a Stair"
"Gutter Go Now" (I seem to be stuck in low gear)
"Sole - Oh!"
"E-Bayou"

and there's more...........................

Do you do any flood-oriented songs on the CD? Like

"Mississippi Heavy Water Blues?"
"Wasn't That a Mighty Storm?"

... or some other such song. Name it after the closest to a flood or other natural disaster song on the record. If it's got lots of hard-times songs, call it "Hard-Time Troubles in Mississippi Blues," even if there's no such song on it as such (if there's an instrumental, particularly an original, just rename it to match the title).

Or call it, in Mark Twain's words,

"Sidewalk Bob -- Better Than It Sounds." {Though there's a DC-area string band with that as a logo, and they may have used it on a CD, you can't copyright titles, so you're home free anyway).

Good luck.

Songster Bob

"Pickin' n' Grinnin'"?, which is a shot in the dark because, really... Cluin's concept must be integrated with the title. If he uses Katrina storm images, perhaps "Blue Sky Blues".... coastal erosion concept with "Delta Down Blues" or "Mississippi Mud in Your Face" or whatever. I can't see a final name being picked without knowing Cluin's concept.

Sidewalk Bob - By Public Demand

Oh. I guess I'm not eligible.... ;)

I had no concept as yet. I don't like to chew my cud twice. Since I haven't heard the music, I was waiting for a title and any suggestions as to preference re:look & direction from Bobert. He has decided to ask here for suggestions. When it's your baby you want to weigh all the factors you can get before you send it out into the world.

Normally I double my price when dealing with a committee (anybody who ever has had to do that will know why), but this ain't like that. Bobert has the only word that matters. I gave him a very stripped-down price anyway.

Awwrigght! Bobert, that makes my day! But don't jump to cut the number of songs; I just said 13 for the sake of the concept, not knowing the number. "Sixteen Shades" has a nice ring, too. Go which ever way makes ya happy, but give yerself time to chew on it. I'm gonna be like a four-year old waiting for Christmas, waiting for the CD to become available.      Dean.
