Please can any one tell me which song these lyrics are from. Hopefully the song will be played at a funeral on tuesday.
Many thanks.
"One day when god begs my forgiveness, I'll say arr you screwed up at least there was the rock and roll,
I lost my cheery to strawberry fields forever, I fell in love to rubber soul."

This link should have the details you need. Fourth paragraph seems to refer to your song.

Subject: Lyr Add: ONE DAY WHEN GOD BEGS MY FORGIVENESS
From: Hillheader
Date: 27 Nov 05 - 02:11 PM

ONE DAY WHEN GOD BEGS MY FORGIVENESS

One day when God begs my forgiveness
I'll say Yeah, you screwed up, but at least there was the rock n'roll,
I lost my cherry to Strawberry Fields Forever,
I fell in love to Rubber Soul.

One day when God says he wishes things had been different
I'll say Mmm, me too, but how 'bout those days we drove the car into the hills?
And the view from the very top of Twmbarllwm…..
You could hear the wind in the pines if you sat real still.

One day when God says That's another fine mess I got you into,
I'll say Amen Lord, you really don't say,
But thanks I guess for any good times I've forgotten,
It's the shit you never forget, ain't it always the way?

One day when God don't even recognise his own footprints
And the leaves of Eden drip with pesticide
I'll still owe him one for that summer I worked the Waltzer….
All the prettiest girls got free rides…..

One day when God says he can no longer stand to bear witness
And he's saving the last round in the chamber for Himself
I'll be parked on some slip-road, drunk and nostalgic
For the roads I took when I still cared where I was going....

Going Up Home To Live In Green Pastures:
Well...........Actually Steve and Robin, "Green Pastures" is on one of my favorite albums (although I no longer have a copy), Roses in the Snow. Willie is indeed on the track playing guitar, but the duet vocal is Ricky Skaggs and the harmony is Dolly Parton! Bryan Bowers also plays autoharp on that cut.

Emmylou Harris    Green Pastures    traditional
Willie Nelson      guitar
Jerry Douglas      dobro
Bryon Bowers       autoharp
Ricky Skaggs       guitar/duet vocal
Brian Ahern       bass/guitar
Dolly Parton       harmony

But we shall walk beside the still waters

May all your days be filled with grace and beauty and all your nights fly swiftly towards the dawn. May God's great love go with you on your journey and his spirit be in your song.

When troubles fall like rain upon your shoulders. When sorrow comes and bends you like a bow. Remember this, we never will forget you. Our hearts go with you where ere you go.

And may the Lord bless you and keep you. May he make his face to shine upon you. And give you peace and give you peace forever and ever more.

Does anyone have the lyrics to "Where the roses never fade" by Linda Sutton. I've searched everywhere and can't find it. I've seen the old version, but I'm looking for her version to sing at a funeral. It's an old recording. Maybe late 80's early 90's.

Hi Guest
Attach a name if you're going to post as a guest but most of all people won't see your request buried here in this thread. Start a thread with the heading Lyric request then add the name of the song you're looking for. That way every one will see your question & you'll get far more responses, here you'll hardly get any
Good day & good luck
Barry

Funeral songs, well, I can be very "pop" oriented sometimes but the Garth Brooks song, "The Dance," has always worked for me; also, there is a christian/pop singer/songwriter by the name of Bob Bennet
who wrote a nice song called - "The Place I Am Bound," and I like it a lot too. It is a kind of up-tempo Celtic influenced view of his wake from the viewpoint of he who died - lamenting the fact that he is not there to share in the festivities, food, tales, drink, etc.

Finally, if it can be done, find out what song(s) the deceased liked,
and/or what songs the deceased wanted to be played at their funeral and go with that flow. Good Luck. Cheers.

Subject: Lyr Add: WHERE THE ROSES NEVER FADE
From: oldhippie

For "Guest" - this one?

WHERE THE ROSES NEVER FADE

I am going to a city,
Where the streets of gold are made,
Where the tree of life is blooming,
And the roses never fade.

Here they bloom but for a season;
Soon their beauty is decayed.
I am going to a city,
Where the roses never fade.

Loved ones gone to be with Jesus,
In their robes of white arrayed.
Now are waiting for my coming,
Where the roses never fade.

Here they bloom but for a season;
Soon their beauty is decayed.
I am going to a city,
Where the roses never fade.

Where the roses never fade...
Never fade.

Janie West Metzgar wrote the lyrics in 1929.
Her son, Robert Metzgar composed the music.

There's a CD available of a tune by that name HERE. If the one oldhippie posted is the right one, there are a bunch of videos of it on youtube, including THIS ONE.

WHERE THE ROSES NEVER FADE^^^

I am going to a city where the roses never fade
where the trees of life are blooming
and the streets are golden paved
I've got love ones whose gone home before me
in their robes of white array
and they'll be waiting for my arrival
where the roses never fade

Now here they bloom for only a season
but then soon they will decay
but over there they live for ever
on the Lord's bright celestial shore
all of my trials will all be over
and I'll rest forevermore.
now to live with Jesus Christ my savior
where the roses never fade

the last time I sang for a funeral I sang Malvina Reynolds' "From Way Up Here"

It really depends on the person the funeral is about.

I've sung "Solidarity Forever" for union activists -

"I'll Fly Away" for a pilot -

"Last Night I Had The Strangest Dream" for peace activists -

"16 Tons" for a friend who never did get out of debt before he died.

Of course, this depends on where you are singing. Some churches, temples, etc. are more lenient than others. Some only want you to sing from their official hymn books. I like to hear something that is really about the person being celebrated and mourned.

Peace in song,
Joyce

From the band Angel Wings (Their CD is called "With Roots and Wings"):

Song on the CD is "Do Not Stand at my Grave and Weep" - this is the funeral poem written in 1932 by Mary Elizabeth Frye, put to a lovely tune by the band Angel Wings.
