Hi everyone!

Nowell Sing We Clear will be performing at West Chester University on Sunday, December 4 at 4:00 p.m. This is the third year for their performance here, but I don't think word has gotten out very well in the larger Philly/Wilmington area. If you haven't heard them, you'll be in for a treat - John Roberts and Tony Barrand join forces each year with Fred Bruenig and Andy Davis for a pageant of traditional Midwinter carols, songs, and tunes - including a traditional (and hilarious) Kentucky mummers play.

This is the thirty-first (!) year of their touring together. I remember going to hear them as a child and learning their versions of the old carols. (I was in high school before I found out that there was a slow and churchy version of "The Holly and the Ivy.") While not a children's concert, per se, their performance is always very accessible to children.

The concert in West Chester is a fundraiser for the West Chester University Library, and will take place in the Sykes Student Union Theater at 110 Rosedale Avenue in West Chester. Tickets are $20 at the door; $15 for seniors and $5 for children and West Chester University students with ID. For information you can e-mail Dick Swain .

I've noticed their schedule seems limited this year - but if you live in New Hampshire, Vermont, or upstate New York you may be able to catch them. Click here for the Nowell Sing We Clear webpage.

I hope to see some Mudcatters at the West Chester show!

Dan Schatz

This is one of those moments that I wish I did not have to do my radio show. I would love to travel down to West Chester to see this program! It is always a treat!    I saw John a few weeks ago and he is doing great, sounding better than ever!

If you have not had the chance to see Nowell Sing We Clear, DO IT!!!! They are not to be missed!

well if you REALLY want to go AND do your radio show, too,
why not pre-record it and send the disc to the station and
find someone to spin the disc for you??!!

Not to be missed. Wish they were a little closer to us--or even better, coming to the DC area. But congratulations to you.

Please give my heartiest regards to John and Tony. I am elated hearing that they are both doing well enough to make this grand show happen this year.

I wish it was that easy Open Mike. I have tentatively scheduled a guest for a live slot and it would not be fair to cancel. Plus, I have tickets to giveaway for some local concerts and it is not fair to the listeners, artist or the concert organizers to cancel that.   I will be there in spirit, and hopefully next year work it out so I can attend!

Is this an annual event? I saw NSWC at the Painted Bride in Philadelphia over ten years ago and have been wanting to see them again, but I haven't been aware of any Philadelphia area appearances. They put on one of the best, most entertaining shows I have ever seen.

Echoing Ron's comment, they are not to be missed.

My wife and I are planning to attend the show. Are advance tickets required or advisable? Does the show sell out? We are looking forward to seeing John and Tony again. We saw them together a few years ago at Mystic and enjoyed them tremendously. Looking forward to the show.

It has been an annual event for the last few years, though I'm not sure how much longer the guys are going to be doing this, what with health issues, schedules and the like. I've certainly noticed that their schedule has been cut way back this year.

It hasn't sold out in the past and all tickets are at the door. Apparently the Friends of the West Chester University Library have had difficulty getting the word out. West Chester is just far enough outside Philadelphia that the big papers seem hesitant to list events here.

For folks in New York and Washington, it's worth mentioning that West Chester is only a 2 1/2 hour drive, and the concert is at 4 in the afternoon. So for the very enthusiastic (and I hope you all are) it is perfectly feasible to drive in for the day and home that night.

Directions to the University can be found
here . Since admissions is next door to the Student Union, these directions should pretty much get you here.

I'd offer folks a place to stay, but I believe we already have a full house that night.

And Art - I will pass on your greetings. They'll be glad to hear from you.

The concert is this Sunday, and if you're planning on traveling, don't worry about anything forboding in the weather forecast. Any chance of snow (or anything else) in the area should be over by 10 am, and the concert isn't until 4 O'clock.

I'm looking forward to seeing folks there!

I was unable to attend due to a conflict. Could someone who attended post a report on the show?

Yeah, Greg, I had something else prearranged as well. How about an update, Dan or Nancy.

All the best,

Fine show. As usual.
Good music. Good fun. and the added excitement of Tony successfully zooming down a steep ramp in his motorized chair.
