I've been hunting around for a while without success. Anyone know of any sessions going on in or around Nottingham?

That's a really strange co-incidence. I met the organisers of that session in the Dog and Partridge in Sheffeild on Saturday afternoon.   It does sound a really good session, just too far for me to go on a week night even with a generous offer of a bed. I sure its worth a vist.

There's also a session at the Mechanics on Thursday night (sometimes invaded by we folks from the Irish Language Group) and a session (and tuition beforehand) at the Irish Centre on Monday evenings.

Great! Is it all Irish music, though? That's not really where I'm coming from, and I don't know much Irish stuff. Lots of English and Welsh, with a wee bit of Scottish... if that would be acceptable?!

Sorry I didn't make it clear I met the organisers of the Mechanics in Nottingham session in the pub in Sheffield.

If you can travel a fair distance I know there a quite a lot of English sessions in Sheffield and that a European one has been set up.

We are likely to be setting up a session in Chesterfield in the New Year but that is likely to be mainly Irish and Scottish.

lol, apologies back for my own unclearness - I was commenting on D�ith�'s reply, which was on the Irish sessions.

Chesterfield isn't too far from me - only about 40 mins. I think I know enough Scottish stuff to make a useful contribution - I've a few Scottish songs from me Grandma, and an abundance of Scottish harp tunes. So I'd be delighted to join you, if, as and when :-)

2nd Sunday at the Hillsborough Hotel I think. You could send a personal message to MCFat as he organised those sessions. It was a few weeks ago that I met a fellow on the bus who was telling me about it. Sorry I don't have a more direct contact.

Laith - if you send me your email address I will make sure you know what we're doing. Usually our sessions are mainly tunes and they occasionally stop to let me sing.   I haven't publicised this one yet as I'm not quite sure what's happening. Are you a harpist then ? I'm always happy to meet singers of scottish songs.

The next Donisthorpe Quarter Session will be on 15th December, at the Turks Head, Church Street, Donisthorpe, NW Leics - we are about half an hour down the A453/A42 from Nottingham. The evening is probably best described as a Come-All-Ye, all performers (and non-performers!) being welcome - no restrictions on style.

There should be a new thread appearing in the next couple of days...

Mr Happy - Grenville's club is called the Carrington Triangle folk club and for anyone who knows Nottingham, it's not far away from Clarendon College. Wednesday nights, at the Gladstone, in ...Carrington, funnily enough!!

If you're close to Mansfield there's a club at the Brown Cow on Ratcliffe Gate on Tuesdays - 'Ow Now Brown Cow!
