I will be coming from Luton, Beds. I used to be Martin from Barton or Dr Death for a while. What date if any has been set? Just in case I can't make it?

It is on Saturday this time, though may sometimes be on Fridays in future...depends what else we have on work-wise. Camping can be arranged at a small charge (About £4 a night)

Where are you coming from? I don't recognize your name Unicorn man, do I know you?

Hard to avoid festivals at this time of year. Even when it was on the Thursday people were getting ready for festivals etc.

Well if this works, the next one will be about September 21/22

Have a good one at BC Alan!

It is slightly further to walk from our house but the walk is along the canal towpath instead of the road so much nicer. It's a mile maximum.

Hey Terry
Do you never go to festivals? They tend to happen at the weekends!
And Saturday 23 June is the English Music Weekend at Bishops Castle, Shropshire. See English Music Weekend if you are interested.
So, sorry Lynne, neither Sandy nor I would be available for that.
Having said that, my avaialbility in June is very limited anyway.
All the best. Enjoy yourselves!

Urgh! I just typed a long message, posted it and it disappeared! Haven't had a message eaten in ages.

Robbie...do you prefer Friday or Saturday? Shady will be thrilled if Lizzie comes.

We will be talking to the landlord who would be supplying the beer in the next few days.

I'm hoping that if the weather is as good as it was the last two Junes we can sit outside. The surroundings are lovely and the manageress has suggested that we could sit on the bridge over the canal by which you actually get into the room.

So far so good...any more??

It sounds fine to me... I'd be happy about the Friday or the Saturday. Maureen might be troubled about the smoking, but in any case it's the law in pubs from only a few days later. It might be a bit of a risk for a pub to put on a barrel, as you can't be sure of numbers or what they'll want to drink. But you can always make it bring-your-own session.

Surly landlords- why do they do it? You'd think that they'd realise that running a pub means meeting all sorts of people.

Right...we had been thinking of stopping the sessions in view of the miserable, surly landlord (and the lack of cider). We now have the possibility of a change of venue so I'd like to know what everyone thinks. We can, if we like, use the Moira Furnace for the sessions. The accoustics are wonderful...Dave Barnes and I both had an experimental sing last weekend. It's a museum so likely to be no smoking (sorry, forgot to check) but going outside and standing by the canal for a smoke could probably be quite pleasant. It isn't a pub but we can probably get a local pub to put on a barrel of beer and one of Old Rosie (Hooray!!!). This brings me to the second question...what kind of beer? It's Burton Bridge they have and Ted assures me they are all pretty drinkable.

The third question: One of the reasons we were doing them on the Thursday evening was because the pub was too busy on Fridays and Saturdays. Several people have said it would be better to change the night, especially since we have a number of people who come from quite a distance. At the furnace there is no problem so do you think we should go for the Friday evening or the Saturday?

There is camping available including camper vans. They charge but it's only £4 a night.

So...what do you think?

Love Lynne
ps. We are also starting planning for a folk weekend as part of the Moira Furnace Festival next May. I'll keep you informed!

Well it was much less well-populated than usual but fun nevertheless. There were slightly over a dozen of us and due to recent events in our lives I didn't really have the heart to run the thing so it just ran itself. More of a free-for-all than a singaround. We had a lot of music and some singing and quite a combination of the two with everyone joining in.

The next one will be in June, which is traditionally our best one of the year where we usually sit outside and sing and play. I hope many of you who couldn't make last night for one reason or another will be able to make it next time!

Love Lynne

-Her eyes squinted in the glare as she pushed open the swing doors and walked out onto the stoop... Her hair billowed around her as she slowly looked up and then down the street..all she saw was tumbleweed swirling and jumping as it raced to leave town ...she could taste the dust in her mouth, ... she should have taken that last stage she thought...... what good is a bar without cider.......

Hello again!!! The next Donisthorpe session will be held on Thursday March 22nd at the Turk's Head in Donisthorpe at 8pm. We now seem to have a small core of regulars and it would be nice to see some of the other people we've had over the last couple of years and also some new ones.So....who's up for it? With any luck the weather will be better than it was for the last one! And we can celebrate the vernal equinox at the same time!

See you there?

We missed you Paul, but I'm glad you are safe. Don't blame you for not risking the weather...I was quite worried about everyone driving here.

I hadn't actually expected many people in view of the horrible conditions, but in the event, I think we had more people than we've ever had!

As usual It was a really great session with a good variety of singers and musicians, and once again, totally different from all the sessions which have gone before. Just by the way, it was actually our second anniversary.

I do wish people would stop apologising..."I'm sorry, this isn't really folk". I don't give a bu**er what it is as long as it's music and you are playing and singing it yourself. After all, it's never been called a folk session has it? We had something from "Smells like teen spirit" by Nirvana. We had "Sweet child of mine".We also had some trad and modern 'folk' tunes and songs. It was all great.

See you in March...round about the equinox probably

Love Lynne

Oh dear...the weather's not looking too good this end! It's thick fog and has been like it for two days. While I'm really looking forward to a good sing and jovial company, I will understand if all you who come from a long distance can't make it due to the weather. I'd rather have you safe and absent than otherwise. Do take care!

Actually, I think the solstice is tomorrow Paul...it varies a day or two from one year to the next. Definitely still a solstice sing though. Yuletide was always a solstice celebration originally and covered a week. As far as we are concerned, the solstice is the real start of our Yuletide celebrations.

See as many of you as possible tonight!

Love Lynne
