I didn't know John Campbell existed until I saw a video clip within an IFC channel production called Dancing to New Orleans. While there are some very good bits in that film, nobody held a candle to what he did. Luckily, his part happens in the first part of the film and so I have been able to watch it a number of times without having to search through the whole thing. Fantastic! In just a couple of minutes he described three or four different styles for playing blues on guitar. He demonstrated each one perfectly: piano style, banjo style, slide and I think one other...stomp, maybe. Then came the capper: he played all of those styles at the same time and totally rocked the place! Unbelievable! I hope you get to see it.

I have since learned that John Campell is no longer with us. He burned out all too soon, in my opinion.
