Subject: Folklore: Quartet From: GUEST,Pete Date: 06 Dec 05 - 08:38 AM I am trying to set up a band (2 women & 2 men) and I would like to know if there are (were) any bands around with a similar set-up. Our focus is on singing good harmonies (folk style rather than jazz; some a-capella singing as well). Are/were there any quartets around whose singing could provide inspiration? (funny/humorous/comedy-style preferred) |
Subject: RE: Folklore: Quartet From: GUEST Date: 06 Dec 05 - 09:05 AM Have a listen to Salt of the Earth - a wonderful, if short-lived 2 man 2 women group from NE UK. Amazing harmonies plus occasional concertina. They were Danny & Joyce McLeod + Barrie & Ingrid Temple - it was a real shame when they went their separate ways after just one CD (Turn of the Tide). Glad i saw them though. Follow this link and find them amongst 'artists' http://www.chanteycabin.co.uk/ |

Subject: RE: Folklore: Quartet From: GUEST,Val Date: 06 Dec 05 - 01:46 PM They're maybe not a "folk" group, but might offer some inspiration for harmonies and are easily accessible: The Mamas & The Papas. |
Subject: RE: Folklore: Quartet From: Les in Chorlton Date: 06 Dec 05 - 01:49 PM The first Steeleye Span had 2 women and lots of men and made great sounds |
Subject: RE: Folklore: Quartet From: Les in Chorlton Date: 06 Dec 05 - 01:52 PM Dave and Heather Brady, who sang with Jim Boyes as Swan Arcade, were more exciting, as vocaly varied and more than a match for most quartets! |

Subject: RE: Folklore: Quartet From: M.Ted Date: 08 Dec 05 - 02:34 PM Probably best, before going on, to ask what the ranges are--it is one thing if they are soprano, alto, tenor and baritone, but other combinations are possible, too-- |
