I'm sure that there are people out there who would not want to miss this.
On BBC Radio 3 last night (Late Junction 07-12-2005) there was broadcast the latest project from Chris Wood and Hugh Lupton, exploring the tradition of "Mumming".
For anyone even slightly interested in the English Tradition, this is a "Must Listen".

It will stay available on the BBC website for the next week.
In these days of mass consumerism, this programme is the perfect antidote.

And a very Happy Christmas to you all

Ralph

I caught this by chance and it is magical. Not all factual, impressionist. And wonderful images (pictures were always better on radio)

Christmas Champions is available on Listen Again at the moment.
I don't know how long it'll be there for, so catch it while you can.

You can still get at it through the link above or Google "Christmas Champions"

I don't think it has ever been taken off - a bit like the new radio ballads.

Also for EFDSS members there is a big article by Ruth Archer of Mudcat in this quarter's magazine about how this led to the stage show of the same name which starts touring next week.

Christmas Champions has been available on Late Junction's Listen Again all year! Still worth listening to.

Folkiedave mentions the article on Christmas Champions in the latest issue of English Dance & Song (Thanks Dave!). In addition, EDS and the EFDSS have collaborated with the Christmas Champs tour, and the the article is reproduced as the centrepiece to the tour's free programme.

The tour starts next Monday at The Sage Gateshead.

Mumming and hoodening both need deregulating under the Licensing Act...

I reckon with an expert witness it would easy to argue the morris exemption applying to mumming and hoodening against any council stupid enough to prosecute it.
