Friday, February 24th -- Saturday, February 25th


Friday
This exciting event starts off with a concert on Friday evening featuring Máirín Uí Chéide, Áine Meenaghan, Liam Ó Maonlaí (The Hothouse Flowers), Virginia Stevens Blankenhorn and Julie Henigan among others (Concert starts at 7:30pm).


Saturday
Song Workshops follow early morning coffee and scones on Saturday morning (9:00am-10:15am and 10:45am-12:00 noon) and then participants and performers have a chance to mingle over lunch.


On Saturday afternoon, to commemorate the 100th anniversary of Douglas Hyde's visit to Milwaukee (Douglas Hyde was the first president of Ireland), the Center for Celtic Studies at UWM will be unveiling a plaque in "The Cudahy Bar" in the Pabst Theater. Dr. Seosamh Watson will give the first "Hyde Memorial Lecture" (2:00pm). This special event will be followed by a wine and cheese reception. A singing session will start at 7:30pm at "The County Clare" pub. Be ready to share a song or two!


Registration
Admission to concert $10
A special weekend rate of $35 will cover admission to the concert, Saturday morning workshops and a boxed lunch. Advanced registration is advised.

Timeline of Weekend


Friday, February 24th
7:30pm -- Concert featuring renowned sean nós performers (at the auditorium in the Music Building at UWM)


Saturday, February 25th
9:00am - 12:00 noon -- Song Workshops (The Hefter Center, N. Lake Drive and Hartford Ave., Milwaukee)
12:00 noon - 1:00pm -- Lunch (The Hefter Center)


2:00pm - 5.00pm -- Dedication of plaque to commemorate Douglas Hyde's visit to Milwaukee in 1906 to raise funds for "Conradh na Gaeilge" ("The Gaelic League") in order to pay teachers of the Irish language in Ireland. "The Gaelic League" was founded in response to a real concern at the time that the Irish language was in decline following the huge population decline during the famine in the 1840's and the mass emigration which followed it.


First "Hyde Memorial Lecture" to be given by Dr. Seosamh Watson.


Wine and Cheese Reception to follow.


7:30pm -- Singing Session in the small bar in "The County Clare" pub.
