Blimey another year gone.

Market Rasen Folk Club holds its annual Christmas Evening at Faldingworth Village Hall
On Friday December the 16th 2005.
Entrance £5 which includes Supper halfway through the evening.
The Bar will be open, so please don't bring your own drinks.
Doors open 7:00pm for 7:30pm start.

The Spotlight Guests are DaCapo
The group has a wide ranging repertoire from traditional ballads and accapella pieces to the up to date songs written by group members. The instruments range from Tin whistle, Guitar, Cello and Mandolin to percussion instruments such as the Jembi Bodhran and home made boot stick.
DaCapo is a folk group which formed 14 years ago when Dr. Jim Ward retired from teaching at DeAston School and a surprise party was organised for him reuniting members of all the DeAston Folk Groups from the previous 2 decades. Hence the name DaCapo, a musical term meaning back to the beginning. Our much loved and respected founder Jim is not able to appear with DaCapo at the moment due to ill health and the group have made a CD for the Local Alzheimer's Society in his honour these are available from any group member as well as China Choice in Market Rasen and The Village Store at Osgodby.

The music theme is Christmassy and there will be Carols which everybody will be encouraged to join in.

Ok The latest situation is that there are 16 tickets left.
So if anybody wants to reserve tickets, they should do it now. Monies can be paid on the door. It's first come, first served.
Once they have gone, we won't be able to let anybody else in.

Tim - if you are able to sort out the possible extra people that would be great.

Strollin' - let me know ASAP if you are coming.

Seats are already reserved for the performers. However, if any performers are bringing friends along, they need to reserve their seats now, unless they already have tickets.

To the right of where it says Create a new thread, there is a drop down icon that you can click on to say how many days ago you want to go back to. Normally it is one day. Once you have selected the days click on go, and then scan down the threads.

All tickets are gone. There will be 55 heaving bodies there, including the performers, chef, barman, bottle washer, bog cleaner, doorman, bouncer.

It is accoustic, so I hope all the singers take their antiseptic sprays tonight for a good bellow out tomorrow. :-)

Don't forget your candles, father christmas hats, flashing chest brooches, flashing earings, fishnet stockings and so on and so forth. :-)

Doors open 7:00 for start of 7:30.

For the older ones, whos memories are going and eyesight, there will be the odd Christams Carol Songbook in 18 point size.

Its 'cos Rockhen is an awful snob about guitars
And the players there off!
She doesnt mind you competent twanglers,but such as myself,humble trainee twanglers who make missssssstakes.
Well she gives us a hard old time of it.
So by way of retaliation the phrase plonker,as stolen from a certain sitcom catch phrase came to be used by us poor twanglers,to describe players of the smiling coffin.
If you go to any of the brilliant open mikes that she and her poor henpecked hubby organise there is a sort of mini audition and guess who the judgette is?
Dont get me wrong,Rokky is quite a nice person on the surface but underneath lurks an antistringian monster of unimaginable brutality.
Why do you see the way the mello cello chick who plays in WWW looks so tense,she went to the Acadamy and still is in terror of making a single wrong note for fear of wokkies wrath.
That poor girl Sharon,who plays the classical guitar so beautifully in the same group, (WWW) scared witless if wokky scowls at her.
And who wouldnt be.
As for myself allI ever did was compliment her playing and singing and ask her why you never hear pianists bending notes like great guitarists can for effect.
Worst mistake I ever made.
I dont think it was that I disagreed about the superiority of the piano as much as pointing out what I saw as a limitaion and having the audacity to be right.
Mind as another freind of mine a mandolinier of some repute said,they can bend the notes if they really want to.
That is how piano smashing competitions came into being.

I might be biased, but I thought that was a brilliant evening.
Smashing Christmassy feel to it.

All performers did great and provided a lovely variety of songs.

I have to say that the teaming up of Jane and John tonight was a big success.

Funniest part of the evening was "Twelve days of christmas". DaCapo had the whole audience up on their feet singing their heads off - women verus men. Wish I had videod it.

I thought the Faldingworth committee did a great job with the food.

The bar I felt was a success, and shutting the bar whilst performers were singing to me was a great idea. The performers were not interupted with the bar noises.

The layout works very well from audience perspective BTW
Jane and John are both great to listen to on their ownsomes but the two together? When can we expect a CD? They were brilliant!So 1 and 1 can equal more than two.
Terry and Gwenda just get under my skin every time I am lucky enough to hear them and always get an emotional response from me Laughter or tears.
DaCappo what a band and how well they work an audience,truly enjoyable
And Stitherum another great selection of material.
I have to agree with you Les you have a really solid foundaton for the future success of the Club.
Now if you could sneak it a bit closer to town.....

Thanks to all for a brilliant night, last night at MRFC. For once I agree with Twangy, (ha...that's a first, I reckon!) Congratulations and huge thank yous to all playing, organising, helping and involved in any way. Not to forget the chef/s...I really enjoyed the supper! Not an easy feat cooking for that many people. The music was great and Jane and John, I always enjoy hearing you play on your own but performing together worked brilliantly and I hope we hear much more from your new musical combination!

(PS Well I agree with the Twangy's last posting anyway, not the twanglers v plonkers debate and I don't really hate guitar music, just have to fight the corner for us piano/keyboard/accordion plonking people as we are outnumbered by the stringy-playing people!)

Yes, a very enjoyable soiree, all the artists pulled out the stops and gave excellent performances and, although it's maybe not fair to single anyone out, I was blown away by Sooz's new song about her Mum and Christmas - the reference to 'Shiny coins and an orange' brought memories of my own childhood Christmases flooding back! Great Stuff!
Good food, nice crowd, good music. Heaven!

Twangy won the award for the best hat (and shirt) and therefore gets free entrance on Janauary the 13th 2006 which is when Market Rasen Folk Club is open again.

Thanks to Mrs Sooz for the 12 days of christmas e-card. I liked that and fitted in topically with above comments.
