Well, it ain't folk (he says with some confidence). It's Harry Nilsson. Perhaps a search at International Lyric Server will help. If my memory serves me well, you have the lyrics nailed, completely except for multiple "Oooh, ooohs!" Of course, the Lyric Server is temporarily "disabled" at this time.

There is a wonderful Harry Nilsson Web site, but it unfortunately has no lyrics to it. Tons of information, including that this song was on about 10 albums, including Nilsson Schmilsson, is available.

But there's actually only one thread about the song: Lyr Req: Coconut (Harry Nilsson). The other copies were posted in BS threads or as digressions (thread drift).

This is a hard song to find because people often call it erroneously "Lime in the Coconut" or "Put the Lime in the Coconut" or "Put de Lime in de Coconut" or they misspell it "cocoanut" or they might even spell it phonetically "cokey-nut" because that's how he pronounces it in the song.
