I started a thread (click here to see it.) asking for some lyrics. The name Peg Leg Howell came up.

That name is unfamiliar to me. Can anyone tell me something about him and if there are recordings with him on them?

Peg Leg Howell was a guitarist from Georgia who played in a ragtime finger picking style somewhat similar(to my ear anyway)to Blind Willie McTell. He made some records with a band called Peg Leg Howell and his gang in the '20's and '30's, and made a now out-of-print album on Testament records in the '60's.

Check out yet another possibility entered on your other thread about this song. I was unaware of the Testament recording, however, and that may be what you're after. The only Charters collection I have is on Folkways.
