Subject: RE: BS: Happy Beethoven's Birthday! From: GUEST,Whistle Stop Date: 16 Dec 05 - 11:35 AM An interesting fact is that Beethoven did not know until he was in his 30s that he had been born in 1770. He thought he had been born in 1772. This is because his father, anxious to have a child prodigy who might gain fame and fortune comparable to Mozart's, told everyone that his son Ludwig was two years younger than he actually was, in hopes that they would be even more impressed with his keyboard abilities. Of course, once you've passed the age of 200, a two-year difference doesn't look like much. |
Subject: RE: BS: Happy Beethoven's Birthday! From: Donuel Date: 16 Dec 05 - 11:41 AM His (9th symphony) simplicity made grand and infinite like a mandelbrot equation is forever a fractal masterpiece of mankind. And all this after a tragic reaction to lead poisoning 30 years earlier. |

Subject: RE: BS: Happy Beethoven's Birthday! From: gnomad Date: 17 Dec 05 - 08:28 PM Cotswold morris dancers (well this ex-one anyway) will tell you that Idbury Hill gets a real lift from being danced to the "Ode to Joy", or to Freedom if you prefer. The trick is to start off normally, then bring it in aroumd the 2nd or 3rd chorus, just when the dancers begin to flag a little. Ooh, my knees! HB, LVB. |
