Yes, he did write a song about it - I'll dig all the words out later. Meanwhile, this is the bit I remember:

I don't look a bit like Santa Claus,
The verdict is official.
If the beard on me is all you see
Then your look's quite superficial.
There's Karl Marx, and Henry Parkes,
With whom I can be compared,
But it's plain to see that you don't see me
If you just see the big white beard.

Marx? Hmmm. Not just the white hair and beard. The workshop full of proletariat toiling all year long only to have the fruits of their labours distributed by this autocrat who then gorges himself on kickbacks and doesn't share even a crumb or sip of these milkings extorted under threat of disenfranchisement for nonconformist behaviour. Rosy cheeks, eh.... almost pink! Hmmm indeed!

We are having Christmas lunch in a restaurant in town. I refuse to cook on such a hot day, someone else can do it!

And it's true you know, he does look a teensy tiny little bit like......you-know-who......!

I've been really starting to feel the Christmas spirit since yesterday - a couple of lovely early presents arriving, and a package for under the tree, a house decorated with lights, Christmas shopping is nearly all done, the Christmas Bush is bright red, the weather is warm and sunny, and I'm on holidays - YIPPEE!

John doesn't like Christmas, is very Bah Humbug-ish about it all, and ESPECIALLY doesn't like people saying he looks like Santa Claus, even tho he does. He says "I don't look like him, he looks like me". However since I got him involved in putting lights up on the house, he seems to be liking it better.

JennieG, I hate to tell you this, but the forecast for Christmas Eve is 38 degrees (over 100 to you Fahrenheit people), so unless it cools down drastically, your Christmas might be hotter than you want. We'll be doing Christmas at my son's place on that hot Christmas Eve. The only airconditioning will be in my car on the way there. That's an Australian Christmas for you!

Jenny

Mince pies....my favourite fruit! Thank you for reminding me Liz. I shall buy my customary 2 pies tomorrow.

This year is the first time for 30 years that it will be just the 2 of us. Younger son Doug is in Canada (Toronto) and loving it - he will have his first white Christmas. Older son (Stephen The Drummer) has scored a job playing in the band of a cruise boat for a few months and will be cruising the Pacific Ocean on Christmas Day.

So this year there is just Himself, Myself, and the cats. We are hoping that it won't be too hot.

Happy Thingmas and Seasonal Whatevers to all,

Cheers,
JennieG

i have the spirit of the season
and it's definitely bailey's irish cream
especially when combined with hot chocolate
coming in from the canadian cold
after taking my little girl tobogganing for the first time
taking off dripping boots
drying over the hotair vent
mug cradled in hand
watching her open an early christmas present with wide eyes
and stopping at the creche to say
'happy birfday baby jesus'
so i drink my spiked hot chocolate
putting the mortgage worry away
thankful for employment and health and family
love made the world
and keeps it going round

I slipped in the snow last week, and probably pulled a muscle in my leg, so I should be off my feet and taking it easy, but there are still things to do, mostly getting to the post office to get my presents sent out. And I still had to go to work, even though there was darned little I could do with my leg wanting to give out on me all the time. Fortunately, I'm not travelling anywhere this year, and, for a change, I don't have to work on Christmas, either. I'm on vacation from now until Dec. 31. I'll get everything sent out tomorrow and buy some booze, and then I'm just going to relax for two weeks. I think.

You got Elvis in your car? I hope it's a big car.....

I've been playing Christmas music for weeks now on the stereo - I have a vast and varied collection! It all started when I wanted a rest from the Kings College Choirboys tape at church.... you wouldn't believe what I've got now!

The Christmas cards have been sent. The cards we have received are hanging all along the stairs. The Christmas tree is up, lit and partially decorated. Elvis has been singing Blue Christmas and other assorted Christmas tunes in my car for the last few weeks. Almost all my Christmas shopping is done.....somehow though, it just doesn't feel like Christmas to me.

Santa's little red (Post Office) van pulled up at the door earlier today. "Oh!" says I. "I'm expecting a really nice little parcel" "You won't be dissappointed" says my pint-sized postie, "here I am". "But this is a musical parcel", replies I. "No problem" says he and bursts into song.........well SOMEONE has the Xmas spirit!

Thank you (you know who you are) dear catter for the CD "Nowell Sing We Clear" I've been dancing along to Kris Kringle this afternoon - this spirit is infectious - thank heavens I no longer am :>)

The last storm dumped icy slush on us, which then froze solid. Some of the neighbors have their tree lights set for "epileptic seizure" and retail stores are playing dreadful pop "christmas" songs. That out of the way, I found MY christmas music and have been busy making Christmas presents for people. Also, my step-mum-to-be has effected a Christmas miracle: my dad has been mister bah-humbug for the entire 36 years I've been on this earth, however, this year there are Christmas lights on the garage, around the picture window, and HE suggested getting a Christmas tree (which is up and decorated)!

I lied! It was dark and cold when I posted above. It is still dark and cold, but in a glance out the window I see the clouds finally let loose an inch or so of snow! It will most likely melt, we do live in the Banana Belt of Colorado, but it's still nice to see. I hope it lasts long enough for my grandson to have some fun.

Dani, my Christmas CDs and tapes are buried in a closet, so...go to www.pandora.com and create your own "radio station." Amos started a thread in the music section about it. I told it my choice was "the holly and the ivy" and had it on all day, yesterday, playing oe beautiful song after another of very good class performers and arrangements of all kinds of related-type music. It was wonderful! No need, at all, to shell out for ITunes.:-)

The high desert valley is dry and brown, tan, dead-weed yellow, red sand in spots, greens and blues of spruce, pinyon, and firs with stark white and gray deciduous trees lifting their naked arms to the sky. The clouds have hung low for a few days, leaving snow all around the valley on the mountains, but not down here. No matter, though, with a two year old in the house, it feels like Christmas, anyway!

There's a holly berry underfoot in every room; piles of cards waiting to go in the post; pine needles (albeit artificial) in every carpet and a lopsided Santa on the table. There's a Christmas pudding in the cupboard, crying out for brandy; there's a list 3 pages long of what I still have to do; I've got chapped lips through singing carols in the teeth of a Northeasterly wind in an open market for an hour and a half; the kitten has eaten at least one tree bauble and I will throw up at the sight of one more mince pie....

I love this time of year!!!

I went ice skating on Vancouver Island last night under a big beautiful moon on an outdoor rink! The rink had a little extra help to maintain the ice, but not much, as it was definitely below freezing. It was a big deal for me, as the last time I skated was over 15 years ago and I was worried I had forgotten how.....and I hadn't and I wondered how these old bones would survive a fall and forutuantely I didn't find out!

Although a little more cramped, it was the first time I've skated outside at night, since I was small and it sure brought back wonderful memories and the spirit of the season. The only thing missing was the bonfire and flaming black marshmallows.

It's definitely Christmas in Brisbane. Within a week we have had two storm fronts several hundred miles across roll across South East Queensland and rip the roofs off people's homes, just in time for XMAS! And day temps of 36 deg C too!

The air is crisp, the ground frosty and the sun is shining brightly. The houses are decorated with light. Its definitely Christmas in Vancouver.

Went to a concert last night in a beutiful, old church with a friend from Montreal. It was the Winter Harp Festival and it was wonderful! How often do you get to hear harpists? I was enthralled.

Bah. Humbug. All we could come up with was a little cold rain this morning. All I can come up with is a miserable little batch of cookies, and I can't even find my #$!&#~ Christmas music collection, and must either sing it all myself (don't feel like it) or cough up the Itunes bucks.

Bah.

Nothing like getting out there first thing in the morning and snowblowing a half foot of sticky snow into the cold wind to wake a fellah up! It's so invigorating when the wind picks up the fine particles of Old Man Winter's wonderous crystals and drives them back in your face, stinging you like a thousand little ice needles and leaving you gasping for air. And waving an embarrassed "sorry" to the neighbour passing by with small children who have never heard such language. Makes me want to sing... It's beginning to feel a lot like Christmas... SOB!
