Subject: RE: Mudgather Crediton, Devon UK end Mar 06 From: wysiwyg Date: 20 Dec 05 - 10:25 AM Folks, maybe y'alls could help me with something. I've been working on WWII stories written by a late, dear friend. Part of his childhood during the war was spent in Devon, in the area of Chawleigh. If it would be possible to enquire about a "Bells Farm" owned by the Webber family in the mid-1940's, it would be a HUGE thing to be able to show a picture to his surviving family on this side of the pond. He went to school in nearby Chulmleigh. His military service was near Exeter, in the late 40's, and he was based at Topsham Barracks for basic training. A rough draft of his stories is here at Mudcat, in the thread, "Proofreading Help Needed ASAP." The links I have found so far are also in that thread. Thanks for any help, ~Susan |

Subject: RE: Mudgather Crediton, Devon UK end Mar 06 From: My guru always said Date: 19 Dec 05 - 06:05 PM Well, that's 5 of us then, enough for a decent round (of beer at least)!!! Just gotta get a suitable time then - I suggested Saturday tea-time to Pete the other day as it's usually a fairly 'slack' time at most festivals - but I haven't any idea of the program yet. For any Catters who haven't yet experienced the delights of the Crediton Festival, it's free and centred around the Ring of Bells at Cheriton Fitzpaine which has Real Ale (hoorah) & good reasonably priced food. There's provision for caravans & campers & indoor & outdoor camping & lots going on including: Local & National Folk Performers & Concerts Singarounds & Music Sessions Morris Dancing & Mumming & Hoodening Saturday Night Supper Bash Medieval Combat Show & now a MudGather!!! Unfortunately no web-site, but I have a contact email addy if you'd like to PM me (I'm still wary of putting people's details on the net, ain't I the silly one...) |

Subject: RE: Mudgather Crediton, Devon UK end Mar 06 From: Snuffy Date: 19 Dec 05 - 08:51 AM I will be there, cunningly disguised as a Shakespeare Mummer (as will a certain hirsute, concertina-playing fellow). So, as long as our performances don't clash with the gather ... |
