Subject: The Geordie Song Book on EBAY
From: Naemanson
Date: 22 Dec 05 - 04:58 PM

While surfing through the music section of Ebay I noticed this item. Click Here

THe description follows:

The Geordie Song Book. Published by Butler Publishing no date given. 64 pages, a collection of 25 Geordie songs, some with words and music, others just with words. It features the usual favourites, The Blaydon Races, Cushy Butterfield, The Keel Row and Dance to thy Daddy among others. The cover of the book is grubby otherwise it is in good condition.

Just in case someone is interested.

I think that's how they spelled it in the Minstrelsy - blame Bruce and Stokoe.

I'll be keeping an eye on it, and possibly bidding (toward the end).
If anyone else here plans to bid (or starts bidding) a note in this thread might stop us pushing the price up for one another.
I can be recognised as "Nigel42Folk"

One of the bidders was me but the present winner has got a maximum bid set up to outbid others. You need to bid in the last second or two to get it cheaply. Failing that you'll have to outbid him/her. I'm not going to auto bid in case it pushes the price up to silly money. Pity I wanted a copy of that but haven't seen one recently but I'm not desparate to own one.

Of course discussing it on an open forum such as this will also invite more bidders!!

Ron you are absolutely 'spot on'.

One of my 'Noo Yeer revolutions' is to tidy out the cellar. I've got a copy of the aforementioned book. I watch proceedings with baited breath.

Ritchie

Cool! I had hoped someone could use that book and I am glad my thread not only sparked an interesting conversation but also revealed a website that made the book unnecessary.

Good going, gang.

Conrad Bladey, I think? After all these years, he seems finally to have managed to put up a set of webpages that have logical links, and which you can look at without taking painkillers.

Well done, Conrad.

Thanks for the link Hazel - it looks as though I have the C E Catchside - Warrington book (vol 111) pictured on that site with a preface from South Gosforth Christmas 1913!
Volumes 11 and 1V seem to be slightly later editions but are also 2/6d !

Yes, Malcolm - Conrad Bladey has done us all a serious public service. Incidentally, he's been a bit quiet on these pages of late ... are you there, Conrad????

Greetings to All:

Have a son who's an Ensign in the U.S. Navy (weaps. offier)(Yokosuka, Japan) and he's looking for a Navy song book (lyrics/music; CD would be a "plus") which contains "gunner's mates songs." Soon to deploy and wants the guys who work for him to rekindle some ol' traditions of singing such songs.

Any help would be appreciated.

Many thanks!
Art P.

Yes, stirling work from Conrad.

GUEST ArtP, you should start a new thread and ask specifically for the navy songs, I'm sure it will get a better response than it will in here.

Jude, sorry I was unable to meet up in August .. I got sick and was laid low for much of my trip. (Didn't even get to see John Dixon) Next time, eh?
