Subject: Surrey/Sussex to Devon/Cornwall From: Cats Date: 27 Dec 05 - 09:45 AM Whilst pondering a problem on Boxing Day, the 4 'Catters sat around the fire, roasting chestnut's when the answer to the problem came as a blinding flash... ask another 'Catter! Help! My brother has for me a bag of tulip and daffodil bulbs which need to be put in soon. He is in East Grinstead, near the Surrey / Sussex border and I am in Cornwall! Due to various reasons, I have not ben able to get there this Christmas to fetch them. So, are any 'Catters travelling from the Surrey/Sussex/Kent area in the next week to 10 days and coming to the Devon / Cornwall area who could bring a bag of bulbs with them? I know this is not the usual thread on here but it seemed a good idea. Apologies if it offends anyone. If you can help could you pm me please? Thanks |

Subject: RE: Surrey/Sussex to Devon/Cornwall From: BB Date: 27 Dec 05 - 02:53 PM Cats, our daughter lives in Shepperton, Middx. (somewhere near the top of the M3) and Tom will be staying there on New Year's Eve. If your brother could drop them off to her, Tom could bring them down to North Devon, but you'd have to pick them up from us (he'll be returning on New Year's Day). We're then away from 5th Jan. If that's any help at all to you, PM, e-mail or phone me, and we'll sort it out. Barbara |

Subject: RE: Surrey/Sussex to Devon/Cornwall From: The Unicorn Man Date: 27 Dec 05 - 03:20 PM It might seem silly but, why don't you just get them posted? |

Subject: RE: Surrey/Sussex to Devon/Cornwall From: Cats Date: 28 Dec 05 - 05:59 AM Doc Death ~ because it costs far more to post them than they actually cost!! They are to go in the hedgerows near the cottage. It slows the traffic down (honestly) and makes it safer for the cats and cows. BB ~ I'll phone my brother and see if I can get them to middx. Thanks |

Subject: RE: Surrey/Sussex to Devon/Cornwall From: breezy Date: 28 Dec 05 - 06:30 AM Dr Teath is a postman and is not his idea cheaper than all those extra travelling car miles. East Grinstead to Shepps and back is about 70 miles I guess Good luch at the black Diamond BB , its the greatest of all Midland folk institutions, almost rivalling the Herga |

We are in Rillaton on the south east side of Bodmin Moor so Ivybridge is dead easy to get to ~ straight down the A38. can you pm me with a contact for you so we can talk about it. You are a star. Thanks. |

Subject: RE: Surrey/Sussex to Devon/Cornwall From: GUEST Date: 28 Dec 05 - 11:24 AM If naturalising bulbs, shouldn't you use some from the local population, rather than importing a different strain from hundreds of miles away? |

Subject: RE: Surrey/Sussex to Devon/Cornwall From: BB Date: 28 Dec 05 - 02:02 PM Thanks, Breezy, for your good wishes. We've been to the Black Diamond before, in their old venue, and had a thoroughly good night. We'd always wanted to do 'Poison Beer' in a pub of that name, with its line 'Stay out of the old Turk's Head', and achieved it there. I suppose we'll have to look out for another pub of that name now - anyone know of a folk club in such? Barbara |

Subject: RE: Surrey/Sussex to Devon/Cornwall From: Cats Date: 29 Dec 05 - 06:56 AM Guest ~ these bulbs originated in Cornwall, so, in effect, they are coming home. Various people who know me will vouch for the fact that I am incredibly careful with what I plant. The theory is that when you have a bank of colour it makes people slow down so the farmers buy up bags of bulbs etc and plant them along the straight bits of road near to narrower sections to make the cars slow down. When the lane is only one car wide that is a real help. |
