Subject: Alanabits new CD From: Bobert Date: 31 Dec 05 - 07:47 PM Well, Happy New Year to me!!! Alans latest CD has just arrived here in this mountain holler and all I can say is, WOW!!! What a great mix of sounds and stories... I've only given it one listen tonight as yet but "Traveler's Tales" is so filled with surprises and twiosts that it's gonna take a few listens to get them all sorted out... He's go dobros and mandolins and women chorus girls and keyboards and harps and, and, and... The CD's title song is a hard driving song with some spooky dobro but with an overall feel of optimism and freeness to it... There are pretty songs and songs that ain't so pretty about stuff down in the pits where the hard battles are fought, won or lost... Eevn some of the pretty songs, like on "Ballad of Sam Brown" hetalks about his borther fallin' from a bomb bal;st in the "Great War" yet there is that hope in: Though the night's dark I see There's a light shines on me There's a light up there shining down on me Yes, this is going to be a very special New Years Eve with Alan's CD to play over and over again... Thanks, Alan... Great songs... Great arrangements... Great instrumentation... Congratulations, my frined, and thanks... Bobert |
Subject: RE: Alanabits new CD From: alanabit Date: 31 Dec 05 - 09:27 PM Thanks Bob. It was a nice surprise to see the thread, when I came in just now from clebrating New Year's Eve. It is Markus who does most of the real work on my albums, so I'll be showing him your kind remarks. I was very, very lucky to have four kind hearted and talented friends to make the album. Had I gone to record companies, I would have spent a decade on my knees and the record would never have been made. Happy New Year mate. Hope you are having fun up there in the mountains! |

Subject: RE: Alanabits new CD From: Stephen L. Rich Date: 04 Jan 06 - 10:00 PM Thanks for the mention, khandu. I plan on recording my own version of the song very soon. The odd part is that the instrumentation that I have in mind is pennywhistle and bowed psaltry. Alan used a dobro for the fills. That means that the Brit will have recorded the "Country" version while the cowboy will record the "Celtic" arrangement. Go figure. Stephen Lee |
