See the Black's recording. "We had wine, Jamisons and porter" is the line.Dara Rete Darte c 192 Dara Records Unit 4 Great Ship Street Dublin 8 and it definitley is the "Char Ladies Ball" a char lady being a domestic help or cleaner.
I have a niece who is about to marry the son of an R.U.C. seargent called Mulligan and I have been warned by my family not to sing this at the reception. The choras includes " your the belle of the ball Mrs. Mulligan" I am always a trouble maker. Keep me off the Jamisons and porter!
