Washington wins Battle of Princeton New Jersey on 1/3/1777

We marched into Princeton with fifes and with drums,
With muskets and cannons, with swords and with bombs,
This great expedition cost infinite sums
But some underpaid Doodles they cut us to crumbs.

Oh, one more. Just in case you needed something to stick in your ear today...

Washington, DC: MC Stone patents the 1st drinking straw= 1/3/1888

        Then cheek to cheek   (2x)
        And jaw to jaw       (2x)
        We sipped that ci-    (2x)
Der through a straw   (1x, repeat verse)

        And now and then      (2x)
        That straw would slip (2x)
And I'd sip some ci- (2x)
Der from her lip      (1x, repeat verse)

"Sipping Cider Through a Straw," Folksinger's Wordbook, Irwin Silber

Coincidentally, one of the books I got for Christmas was a history of technology, that includes a picture of an ancient clay tablet showing Mesopotamians drinking beer- through straws. So maybe Stone was a bit lucky not to be challenged on prior art.

The Mesopotamians were all sitting round one big beer-pot, sharing it.
