ok-came here based on a link or whatever from another forum. I got "into" the place on the "Influencial Album" topic since I feel kinda unqualified to post on a lotta other topics. But I know about folk music in the popular sense and a few things about guitars, banjos, and whatnot. So I guess I picked someone I agreed with who I wont mention as it seems to make enemies or whatever and "hoisted one to 'em" for 2005. Then I see my thread after like 80 some posts deleted 'cause i struck a nerve or somthing. I got nothin' to say bout pre-Christian virgin birth sagas, myths whatever or impeaching Bushie or much else. A few people like "Michelle" seems nice enuf. Others too. But then I read anything about this certain person is an off-limits kinda post even tho I happen to agree with him on some things and figger maybe he needs some positive vibes and maybe he's not the SOB mosta you have a long history with.

Then after my thread is banished to ether space Im told I should join up. Sorry but I think I picked the wrong place to post anything as Im not some expert on most of these subjects and was tryin to be nice to someone who you all--or a lot of you--have had "problems" with. So maybe I should just take my trolling self and get outta town as they say. Somebody said this is like a "family" but it seems like one with a lotta issues which I obviously stumbled into. Maybe I thought I could moderate some of that stuff (boy am I stoopid or what!?!) but I guess not. I was looking for a site that had some info on folk music and guitars and whatnot but this is quicksand to me. I wasnt tryin' to be some suckup to M. Gibson--just agreeing with his take on the KT. So I guess I shoudda kept my mouth shut etc. and whatnot. I'm not big on "joining" things as it seems my spam count has gone waaaaaay up of late. So maybe I'll check in from now and then and all but I cant comment on the past and whatever went down to me isn't relevant. So you can move this to the BS section whatever. So thanks to the people who responded etc. and I'll go back to talkin' handbuilts and whats out there in the guitar world like Taylor and Martin and Larrivee and a lot of others. I made a choice to stay "anonymous" at the outset and I guess I'm glad I did. Too many people here get nasty for my tastes and no disrespect to the mods or owner but I dont think this is for me. As to ol Martin---he obviously pi**** some folks off over time and while I wasnt one of them maybe he could be less in-yer-face and all but I just happened on some threads he was on and didnt get that drift...so live and learn. Y'all can ignore this or me or whatever ya choose. And NO I'm NOT looking to get a buncha crappola responses. I may be around, but for now I'm not officially joining anything-no disrespect to Joe Offer as I know a mod-job is thankless. 'nuf said.

If you try clicking on the name at the head of a post you get a link to all the previous posts that particular person has made here. That might give Anonny Mouse a hint of some of the back history that lay behind some of the comments he or she got.

That's assuming it wasn't all a fake set up by **.

Hey Mouse!

Sorry you had a bad experience here. I was going to jump onto that "album" thread just to see what happened, but then I realized why I hadn't opened it up before: Threads that have a high opinion factor and a low fact level usually seem to attract the more opinionated posters (among others, of course), so there is usually a higher level of trolling and flaming on those threads. Personally, I just stay away from them. I only open threads that I have a specific interest in and that I can learn something from. I come across enough opinionated people in my real life. I certainly don't need them in my vertual life.

I hope when you decide to look in on us again you have a better experience. There are lots of highly informed and interesting, good people who post here.

Nope. And yer mods can verify I'm sure by a different ISP address. I ain't him, vice versa. Yeah I could go to some library but I don't. No set up. But this is really paranoid doncha think? Thanks for the tip about clicking on the head of a post-didnt know that. Everyplace is different. Peace and all.
Yes, I can verify that it's a different IP. Sorry if you got caught up in the mess, but we don't allow threads about Martin Gibson because almost all of them have been big trouble.

Nice job, detractors. I'm sure it will happen again.

Some of you are such paranoid losers.

Anonny Mouse was a good candidate and you, not me chased him off. And Mudcat showed some true colors when the whole thread referred to was wiped out including some very informative guitar information.

Hey, come on. That guitar informaton wasn't all that unique or, for that matter, informative.

The one thing that struck me - positively - about the thread was that several of us mentioned the make of our first guitars. Stella seems to have been the most common choice, accidental or because of price or otherwise.

There was one comment made that was interesting to some- the information that the Stella with a 'steel reinforced truss rod' was now worth $100. I should imagine that if that is so, that information could be easily gleaned in other places.

Anonny Mouse, don't be too quick to judge people ("really paranoid, doncha think?") when you don't really understand the dynamics. As I mentioned on another thread, Martin Gibson has a long history here of trouble-making and disruption, along with logging out and coming back in as other people (hence, the suspicion when someone new wholeheartedly agrees with him right off). He's managed to all but trash this forum, and a lot of good people have left it because they don't want to put up with having to deal with him anymore.

Observe the interchange between people, keep an eye on the way Martin Gibson behaves, and soon you'll catch on to why there are a number of folks who have a knee-jerk reaction to him.

The problem is not paranoia, the problem is Martin Gibson.

Just hang loose and watch awhile. You'll see.

In the meantime, take advantage of what Mudcat has to offer in the way of information exchange, discussions, and whatnot. But just be aware that there is a shark or two in the swimming pool.

Mr./Ms. NonnyMouse... 'joining' is not a big deal, and I can guarantee that your spam doesn't increase because of it! That cookie is only to keep you separate from others. (been here 10 years, myself!) Joining does allow you & others to exchange 'private messages' and permits you to track threads and access neat features...but, hey...lotsa folks been here for years and NEVER join. Martin only joined because he wanted to ensure that all posts signed "Martin Gibson" were really from him *grin*...anyone with his attitude gets a LOT of responses and spoofing.

We'll live with however you do it, as long as you do as you have done, and sign your posts consistently!

Anonny Mouse

bobert and Amos are just so mad because I just do not buy into their extremely anti-American, psuedo-intellectual, drug induced BS, that's all. In reality, they are just not very nice people and I am sorry that you are now also being taunted by them.

Mudcat requires thick skin and if you are not a far left liberal whacko who has to show his hate for George Bush everyday, you will be ridiculed. These are people who talk about tolerance and then are the worst supporters of the word. They have tried to run me and others who don't think like them off, but they are failures, a reflection of many other things in their lives.

Stick around and join. The old Mudcat has been changing and these old line phony power brokers do not have the clout they once did. I got that directly from the powers that be here.

HAHAHA-LOL Bobert- actually pretty funny and all. I clicked on my name and went through my posts which I think started around 12/6-there's one by some Brit I think on St. Albans and buskers, etc. that ISN'T ME-maybe I'm not as original as I thought with the name.

As to the "persona" bit I dont think there's much in common-at least not from what you all said and the dude who gave me some long list of Martin's posts. First off I never write foul language and I think I posted one place when I thought someone called me a "pigf*****" that I didnt rile easy and wouldn't respond in kind to anyone who called me anything dirty or rotten. Just isn't in my nature so I'm not sure where you see I adopted a persona someone else made up. Also I see Martin is Jewish which I am not and I suppose I could write up the Apostles' Creed verbatim, but then again I could find some Old Testament quotes easily enough too. So again, proves nothing. I am however a Christian and actually play in a Praise Band for a Saturday nite service at our church and I could rattle off some numbers we do like "Sanctuary" or "Lord I Lift Your Name On High" or "Here I Am, Lord" but I spose ol' Martin might know about those too. I tried to tell folks a bit about myself in one of the threads-maybe the one that got ditched-how I used to be in a group a loooong time ago and play a little 5-string and guitar, but don't play "gigs" anymore-which Martin said he did in Chicago. And I have a Stelling banjo-not a GIBSON.

So click on my name and read my stuff which is pretty limited and see if it jives with me bein' the same person (or his mom-LOL!!!!). If you folks are as smart as many of you appear to be judging from the obscure collection of stuff I've read here, you'll make the correct assumptions. And I never said I agreed with EVERYTHING Martin ever posted here (which I couldn't wade thru even if I HAD the time). I keep telling ya--I was a big Kingston Trio fan from my younger years and I don't give a flying fig about "folk music snobs" or whatever he doesnt like about some of you--I just agreed that that first album of theirs turned the music world on its ear and it DID make the Grammy people create a "folk music" category-that's all, ok??? Also I believe I mentioned to Martin he didnt need to use bad language to make his point...and if you BOTHER TO READ MY POSTS YOU'LL SEE THAT. Now I'm done for now. You all think what you want. Im taking the advice to stick around and keep reading and see what I think---and "just a guest"-I AM new here ok?

Martin Gibson arrived at Mudcat with a political agenda (arch-conservative and liberal-hating, and not really liking traditional music all that much, and calling anyone who didn't play a Martin guitar a "moron" or worse, and calling any woman who disagreed with him about something obscene sexist names), and a huge chip on his shoulder. He also made fun of people with physical disabilities, and anyone who wanted to use a BS thread to discuss a personal problems with someone who could take an objective view. For verification of what I'm saying, I could post links to dozens of Martin Gibson's posts where he is doing exactly what I just said he does. What he just posted above is somewhat typical of what his style was like right from the start. Is it any wonder people don't regard him as the flavor of the month?

Anonny, I'm assuming here that you are exactly what you say you are:   someone just checking Mudcat out for the first time, and not just Martin Gibson yet again.

But the more you talk about Martin Gibson (indeed, the more threads you start about Martin Gibson), seem to defend him, and question why the majority of people here don't like him, the more people are going to think you're just Martin Gibson doing what he's done many times before. He thrives on attention, which, of course, is why he posts on threads when he doesn't really have anything to say on the subject and insults people right, left, and center. Constantly dropping stink bombs and pulling dorky stunts like starting threads about himself is typical Martin Gibson behavior.

I figure that you may just be an interesting and informative person with a lot to offer. And you might enjoy Mudcat a whole lot more if you divorce yourself from Martin Gibson, forget about him, and do your own, thing instead of doing his for him.

anyway, who really cares. I will continue to be the stick in the side of who I want to and who I don't want to.

Like I said, the clique here of far left liberals will always have a problem with someone showing their hypocracy. And yes, if you want to call that an agenda to counter and temper yours, so be it. And deli lama or whatever your stupid name is, yes, some traditional music is horrendous and unlistenable. I'll take smooth harmonies any day instead of braying. Yet another 'look at *me me mg* thread' from the gibbering one.
Who is without a doubt a sad and perhaps a tad sick person.
Perhaps this Thread could be closed due to the drift back to the usual tedious retoric blah blah from the usual source *
The header suggests that this Thread was supposed to be questions regarding BS Mudcat Cafe Stuff ( which is all there to read in the Faq section by the way), that asked a question about another Thread that was deleted and was explained why by Joe Offer but has yet again turned into a Thread about a nobody who thinks they are somebody and a Guest that is threatening not to join because ??????? who knows, who cares really.
Please....give it a rest it is so over done now it's banal!

"Give a dog a bad name, and it sticks"
then there's
"Please ensure brain is engaged before operating mouth"
Take your foot out of said mouth first of course.

Fair 'nuf, "Peace." I think this bit is the proverbial dead horse being swatted. I said all I wanted to and more than I wanted to on the subject, esp on me=MG. Bobert and some others won't be convinced---so be it. I have a coupla ideas for threads Id like to start but I DID try one on Tabs (you can check my prior posts) and it got 0 posts which I interpret as 1. it was beaten to death before, or 2. nobody gave a hoot. So BEFORE I start up a topic I'm gonna attempt to see if there's already a batch on it. If not, check the musical section. I HOPE to be done here on this thread and yeah if they wanna close it, fine. Id rather it wasn't deleted because the stuff I posted is true ('bout me) and I'd like it to stay so it could be referenced. BTW, I AM home over lunch hour-since I said I don't post from work and I dont. Thats it folks-now to check past threads if I can figger out the most efficient way to do that. Thank you.

Mouse:

The efficient way is to use the Search box on the Forum Threads page, and set the time parameter to All. It will bring back a list of any thread that has in its title the string you put into the search box.

If you need to check the actual contents of threads, you need to use the search engine on the left side of the page, unchecking DT so you don't search trhought he songs database, just the posts database.

Hey Mousie,

:) Thanks for the kinds words.

Just as in life, there are definately some real winners (or is that whiners?) around here and plenty who are know-it-alls. If you are like me, you came here in search of some interesting information and could care less about the political and religious battlefields that seem to go on and on, complete with name calling. If you continue to read threads here, you'll quickly learn what posters to just skip over.

There are, of course, some absolutely wonderful folks here as well. You'll be watching for their posts and things they have to offer. :)

I enjoyed hearing about your first guitar (and all the other posts about first guitars that was deleted). My first guitar was a Christmas gift from my mother-in-law. It was pretty funny as she had it wrapped and sitting out under the Christmas tree for at least a week and I honestly had no idea what it was (can we say DUH?)! Of course, she had given me gifts in the past that gave one's imagination TONS of room to wander. My first gift ever from this woman (about 2 months after I met her son) was a rifle. I had only learned how to shoot the week before. Not only that, she gave me some earrings that she had made out of .22 bullets that had been shot. They actually, were pretty interesting...but I digress....yeah...my first guitar was a gift from my mother-in-law. :)   LOL...thanks for the memory...it gave me a laugh that was much needed today!

Michelle

Hi Mouse

I hope that, once you've hung around the 'Cat as a Guest for a while, you will join.

There are a lot of really good people here and I've met quite a lot of them in the flesh, which has only confirmed my thoughts about them from their posts. The majority of the people here ARE tolerant and friendly but it is difficult for some people to remain so when subject to the sort of abuse that comes from a few posters. My husband calls it 'testosterone poisoning'.

I've found, for myself, that just ignoring and not responding to that type of post suits me. Now I just scroll past certain posters because I know that they have nothing sensible or useful to add to a discussion. I think that an opposing view, put forward without abuse or ridicule, can quite often make me look at my own standpoint and either reinforce my own view or maybe rethink my position on an issue. That's what discussion is about and why I like this site so much.

Good luck for the future friend.

Mouse, Great examples of idiot Guests who have no testicles in this thread. Literally and figuratively.

They wag their finger and lecture you and continue their moron ways.

Amos-thanks for the info. It was helpful (I did a search-but not sure I did it all that thoroughly) and as you can see I did dip the toes into the H20 again and started a non BS thread on first guitars and instruments. Jacqui c-also the way I feel and I prolly will stay outta the BS section unless something really jangles me.

Martin-thanks fer postin' to my thread up there. I gotta story on a Sovereign too with a detached neck but maybe later. No matter what I post for some they think Im a troll or you or whatever. I don't care about the "morons" anyways having been one a few times myself. I got no axe to grind with anyone here including you. Been on a few sites with some suspicious types and I'm one of the first to try to out 'em!

"Peace" and "Deli" and 6 and Michelle and some others have been helpful and even NICE in givin' me some of the lay of the land here and for the rest of ya who are skeptics or think what you do, time will prove what is and what aint. BTW I don't think I can "PM" anyone at this point-but if later I get around to where I can, I got my top 5 list picked assuming they're members not guests.

The great thing about the Internet is that you can always re-invent yourself if people start to pee you off too much. That doesn't just mean changing your GUEST name, there are many members who have changed their member name as well. So if, for example, Bobert persists with his childish campaign you don't have to put up with it any longer than you want to.

cheers, Terry

Watch out for Deli. He is not a Kosher Deli and has been closed down before by the health department for pungent odors and rat droppings.

That's one of the reasons why Martin Gibson gets so nervous and upset when I'm around.

And no, I'm not a kosher deli, I'm probably closer to being a Buddhist, hence the saffron robe.

As I sit here reading this stuff, I chant "OOOOOOOOOOOOOOH, MMMMMMy!!!"

It takes more than a saffron robe and some mediocre chants to get ya closer to Nirvana buddy!

Havin yur threads an postin's thrown out - ain't so much a boot in the butt aroun here - it's sort of a sign o welcome aboard - to the rest o us whose boots and butts are busted and our threads are bare.

Welcome Aboard,

No, lamas certainly would not be found in a Kosher deli.

Lamas have faces like camels, kind of. Camels sympathize with Syria.

The Bactrian camel is found in Asia/Mongolia/Hundu Kush. It has two humps and much longer hair than the dromedary camel which is found in the mid-east. If you've ever seen a camel hair coat it's from the hair found on a bactrian camel. So there you go.

The easiest way to remember the difference is that a "D" has one hump and a "B" has two.

A one-l lama is a priest.
A two-l llama is a beast.
But I'll bet MG's pink pajama
There isn't any three-l lllama.

(Actually, Swanno assures me that a three-ellama is a large conflagration reported to the fire house crew.)

Well, number 6 and Peace, that's pretty funny, especially after I looked at Peace's link. I'm a whole lot closer to Nirvana than you can imagine. That's really hilarious!!

No, I'm not going to explain that.

But it's going to keep me snickering all evening.
