Hi Kenny, delighted to hear that Allan and Jane are going to be back in their (our) old stompin' ground!
Just a pity I can't be there due to health reasons.
Have they any other gigs in their visit?
Is AFC still in the Blue Lamp?

Jane Rothfield and Allan Carr are appearing as guests at Aberdeen Folk Club on Wednesday 25th June. I've posted a short clip of them on the Aberdeen Folk Club "Flickr" page.

This past summer, Jane released a great new CD with lots of original material and some trad stuff. She and Allan performed with Jane's Gang at the Fall Picnic of the Brandywine Friends of Old Time Music in Hockessin, Delaware.

Juice of Barley.

I was in the Welsh dance band of that name from 1976-82. The second generation still work as Juice, and I call with them occasionally.

But I think you mean another Juice of Barley.

I remember Jane and Alan, playing the same Scottish folk clubs and festivals as I did with Diggery Venn in the late 70s, and early 80's. They were unusual in that their sets were split between Jane's old-timey tunes and Appalachian songs and Alan's Northeast Scots songs and ballads, but they worked naturally together in both styles. Alan's "The Gray Cock" was particularly memorable.

They recorded and album called "There & Back" in Scotland in 1983 for Temple Records (TP011) as a duo, and a second one with Mamie in the mid eighties (sorry no details, would guess for Highway or Green Linnet).

A nice couple, good company, like many bands, your paths cross for a few years, you become friends then move on, and if it wasn't for the internet..............
Jane's sister Susie, also a singer and fiddler, played and recorded with the "Any Old Time String Band".

John

NickP, that indeed is the bonny lass herself, looking not much older than she was 30 years ago!
Anglo, if you happen to see either Jane or Allan, can you direct them to this site/thread? I would love to get back in touch. Allan was my best man in 1977.
Cue the Sandy Denny Question....."Who knows where the time goes?"

Jane and Allan live about half a mile up the road from me - though I don't see them often. They play together, with a couple of other people, as Jane's Gang. And they worked as Atlantic Bridge for a while. I don't think they've played with Martin Hadden for a long time.

Martin Hadden (AKA Mamie) ex Silly wizard bass player, now runs the Birnam CD company in Scotland.
Allan Carr from Aberdeen, and his US wife Jane Rothfield were the other members of the trio, and I would like to get in touch with them as wee, so if anyone out there has any info.....
@fraid I can't help with the other group.

I'd like information about two bands: Hadden, Rothfield and Carr and probably the lesser known, 'Juice of Barley' who later went on to be called just 'Barley'.

If anyone has any info on either, if they are still performing, or what any of the members are doing these days, please drop me a line.

Many thanks
