Hi all
As you will know from other threads on this board, Woven Wheat Whispers is a legal folk music website based in the British Isles. Looking through the artists using our service today, it struck me that, we have had a much greater response from England, Scotland, Northern Ireland and Eire than we have from Wales. I'm only posting this to see if we can somehow redress the balance as we are currently only offering music by a few artists based in Wales.

We are as keen to offer music by Welsh speaking artists, as by those using the adopted English tongue. If you would like more info, please click HERE . I will be happy to anser any questions and forward you the info you may need.

Cheers
LL

I can't remember if we've sent this info out to the trac e-bulletin group. Crane Driver did draw my attention to it before Christmas but the last couple of weeks in December got a bit crazy. If you PM me a 'blurb', I'll circulate it. There are also quite a few artists on our website if you want to contact them directly. (www.trac-cymru.org)

I'll have my wife to make some welsh cakes, that'd be nice now.

Have a look at Mrs Pavane's tracks here. There is only one in Welsh at the moment, but she does intend to record more.
We would be happy for you to have any of these on your site.

How about Mary Humphreys & Anahata. I like hearing Mary singing in Welsh. Surprised Mary or Anahata haven't posted on this thread yet.

Hi all
Thanks for your input. Sadly my Welsh doesnt span more than a few basic words as yet, so I cant comment on the non English posts.

Few comments
1. Welsh cakes....Why oh why can't I find these any more. I used to love them with a thick spread of good butter. Welsh Cakes are the thinking man / woman's scones!

Pavanne. Just had a listen. Would love to use these. Drop me a PM or use the blue clicky in the original message

Regarding Crasdant. I would welcome them with open arms. Sadly the copyright to their albums is owned by Sain, so therefore out of the band's control.

As for Mary .... Contact me, I'd love to offer her music

Cheers all
LL

Hi Les
We haven't recorded much in Welsh, apart from one track on "Through The Groves", an album which we aren't promoting any more.

We are planning to make an album of all or mostly Welsh material. It's not clear how Woven Wheat Whispers would help us. I can put up sound clips to download; I can sell albums through the web site; we have to make CDs to sell at gigs, and we know there is a demand for them.

Maybe when we've got some tracks to offer I'll think about it. Certainly no lack of interest in putting some Welsh trad music on the map somehow!

Anahata

Hi Anahata
Sorry I thought you had done more welsh songs.
Seems like artists get 50% of all takings for their work that is downloaded. Not sure if that is good or bad.
Anyway here is the link to anybody interested.

Hi all

Yes as Les says, we pay a 50 per cent royalty share for every download. If you compare this to I-tunes (who pay 20 percent, maximum) you will find it very good. The service isn't meant as a replacement for CD sales. I think of it as a way of maximising income. The site gets visitors from around the world, many of whom prefer mp3 format for ipods, etc.

We are also finding that the site is being visited by those who are relative newcomers to folk music.
They can listen to free samples of tracks we offer before either
A.Following a link to the artists home page to buy the CD direct by mail order or
B. Clicking to pay and download the music from us

We are finding that a number of artists are now using our service to keep deleted back catalogue "alive". Rather than taking on the expense of re-pressing an old title. It is far easier to make it available as a download. This costs the artist nothing and they can begin selling the title again within a couple of weeks of contacting us.

Should you have any questions about the service, just drop me PM here, or use the email clicky in my original post.

Cheers
LL

No Welsh music on WildGoose as they are an English music specialist label. And of course recording copyright is owned by WildGoose.

If we make a Welsh music CD we'll own all the rights so might well send one in to Woven Wheat Whispers for downloading.

Motagator don't charge or pay for downloads! Dawne's tracks there have a download total of about 5400, and are always present in their charts.

Looks like we may have to record some new ones, or maybe restrict their existing downloads to low-fi.
