LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Veteran rock acts David Bowie and Cream, country outlaw Merle Haggard and blues legend Robert Johnson will receive lifetime achievement Grammy Awards next month, organizers of music's top honors said on Tuesday.

Also set to receive plaques will be opera singer Jessye Norman, late comedian Richard Pryor and folk group the Weavers.

Bit late for Johnson....

A bit late for Lee Hays of the Weavers, too.

But I'm glad they're getting the recognition, after all those years of blacklisting and all.

Long overdue but still welcome recognition.

I've just been reading a biography of Lee Hays.

Touching---only proves that Grammys are not that important in the overall picture.   Talent is talent and surely does not need the Grammy folks to deign to recognize it in their snail like pace.

The love of the public is more important than this latest metal piece---I hope it is recyclable since I bet Lee Hays would want it in his compost heap along with himself.
