(d. Jan 10, 1998)

The Florida singer/songwriter/activist/Native American, professor of journalism&media at U. Florida.

In 1996, nominated by the Seminole Tribe of Florida, he was awarded the Florida Folk Heritage award.

One of the more wonderful customs of the Florida Folk Festival

(Memorial Day weekend, Stephen Foster State Park and you can guess what river runs through the park, but I digress)

is to leave vacant the camping spots that some of the more wonderful Florida musicians used to camp at during their lifetimes. There's one for Will McLean, and one for Don Grooms.

I miss my friend. Don Grooms alot.But i know he"s watching over his friends.Don liked my husband Butch Butler, just as Butch liked Don:s friendship just as much i did. Anyone know where I can get a CD or digital version of the album called "An Evening with Don Grooms"? It was one of my favorites growing up, but the cassette has long since worn out.
