Greetings:

For the past week or so, my recording of Shady Grove from my Now the Wheel Has Turned CD has been fairly high on the SoundClick daily folk chart. Today it is at #28.

If you haven't already heard it, I should let you know in advance this not a typical arrangement. I sing the song straight through in plain enough fashion, but on the verses I have Anne Price singing a full octave above me, while on the choruses I have Anne Price and Gina Tlamsa singing Renaissance style harmonies rather than in traditional Appalachian style.

For instrumental accompaniment I play the Appalachian dulcimer in C minor (Aeolian mode) in a style that is more like Richard Farina's than Jean Ritchie's, while Gina Tlamsa plays fiddle in an Early Music style, and Eric Levine picks banjo in an old-time pre-Scruggs style. The overall effect is both ancient and eerie.

Here's a link to my SoundClick music page, from which you can listen to Shady Grove and 17 other songs as streaming audio or download them as MP3 files:

Enjoy!

Sorcha, I'm glad you did. Thanks for the feedback.

Anyone else care to comment?
