Tanglefoot will be in Bath, Maine, on Saturday, January 21st, at 7:30 pm at the United Church of Christ at 150 Congress Avenue. Tickets are $18 ($15 for students or seniors). For more info, call Marie at 207 729 3185 or email selegant@suscom-maine.net.

Tanglefoot is from Ontario, Canada, and is well known for never letting an audience escape unharmed.

More seriously, they really are great and put on a wonderful show - they do a marvelous job of telling a good story with a rousing tune - definitely one of my favorite folk bands. You can get more information on them from their web site.

(And I'm not just saying that because they were featured in the 2006 Naked Folk Calendar!) (Though I do plan to get a copy - or two!)

See you there!
JudyB
(and Charley Noble, who may be a bit upset that they had the photo shoot for the calendar before their newest member joined the ranks....)

Their newest member is Sandra Swannell - to quote from their web site "From recording with the legendary Stompin' Tom Connors, to writing for string orchestra, Sandra Swannell has a diverse musical portfolio. She maintains a busy private teaching studio and up until 2004 served as principal violist with the Georgian Bay Symphony as well as its professional string quartet. For the past five years her fiery fiddle style, dynamic stage presence and adroit songwriting have been a cornerstone of Owen Sound-based contemporary Celtic fusion band The Shards."

We haven't heard her with the group yet, but it sounds as if she'd be a good fit with their sort of dynamic stage presence. Their shows are so much fun that I don't always focus on the fact that they're excellent musicians and singers - I come away thinking how much fun the show was, not how well the parts fit together musically. It does also sound as if she's also up to their level of understated professionalism.

I'm really looking forward to this!

JudyB

A Tanglefoot performance really should be seen as well as heard. "High energy" to say the least. I haven't seen any other performing group whose members spent as much time above the stage.

Ya know--not to drift thread or anything -- but I thought this was a confessional thread by Kendall and Jacqui about their ablutions...sorry. :>)

Really, Amos, I'm shocked that you'd think such a thing!

Six and a half hours to concert time - I can hardly wait!!

And there are still tickets available - and the weather is even cooperating!

It's going to be great!!

Brett-

It was a wonderful concert. Amazingly the local sound team managing to cobble together what was needed to support this band and it didn't fly apart during the concert. Well, some of the performers took flight, as is their fancy, but the equipment held up which was a surprise to me.

Tanglefoot was up against Schooner Fare at the Chocolate Church and we were all very worried that the concert wouldn't break even but it did even better than that.

Their new member, Sandra, does a great job with her fiddle.

Alas, someone had forgotten to bring copies of the Nude Folk Music Cakendar with their January featured picture, all in a line, up to their knees in snow!

Cheerily,
Charley Noble

And for folks in northern New England who wished they could have made it to last night's concert, there is another chance - they're playing in Londonderry NH today (Sunday Jan 22) at 8 pm - more info available from their web site. Enjoy!
