Per IWW Labor History Calendar IWW-HLF, Box 204, Oak Park IL 60303, $7.50 each: "Solidarity Forever" was first sung at a hunger march in Chicago on 1/17/1915. It was written that same month by IWW songwriter Ralph Chaplin.

        When the union's inspiration
Through the workers' blood shall run,
There can be no power greater anywhere beneath the sun,
Yet what force on earth is weaker than the feeble strength of one,
For the Union makes us strong.
Solidarity forever, solidarity forever, solidarity forever
For the Union makes us strong.

ALSO:
US: inventer of the graphite pencil, Joseph Dixon was born 1/18/1799 (d.1869).

        Her cheeks are so rosey,
            She sits there in splendour,
                There's lead in my pencil
                Masterpiece I'll do.

"Pencil Sharpening Shanty" by Cresby, 2001.
