Subject: RE: Middlewich Folk & Boat Festival 2006 From: Busy Lizzy Date: 19 Jun 06 - 12:00 PM A big thank you to all the artists who took part in this years fringe! I know some of you meet here on Mudcat, but I will try and get round to thanking you all personally. It will probably take 'till next year to get round you all!! The feedback from committee is that it has been our most successful festival to date, dust will settle and we will have time off before planning the next one!! |
Subject: RE: Middlewich Folk & Boat Festival 2006 From: GUEST,Taggart and Wright Date: 19 Jun 06 - 06:56 AM Yes thanks to all at the festival for having us back again. Particular thanks must go to that very nice man Kevin Farell who lent us the use of his PA for our spot in the Narrowboat on Sunday. The pub was very busy and noisey so we needed a bit of back up. Tried buying him a pint as part of thanks to him and he said it was okay and glad to help out. Cheers Kevin we will repay you somehow! |
Subject: RE: Middlewich Folk & Boat Festival 2006 From: Ruston Hornsby Date: 19 Jun 06 - 04:22 AM What a good do. Thoroughly enjoyed it, the additional aspect of the canal festival really made it for me. |
Subject: RE: Middlewich Folk & Boat Festival 2006 From: mandotim Date: 18 Jun 06 - 04:10 PM Just got back home; big thanks to Lizzie and all her team for another cracker of a festival; here's to next year! Tim |
Subject: RE: Middlewich Folk & Boat Festival 2006 From: greg stephens Date: 18 Jun 06 - 12:35 PM I was all set to come a-sessioning on Saturday and Sunday, but alas the trusty Saab packed up in a fairly unmendable way on Saturday afternoon.. So I'm stuck at home. |
Subject: RE: Middlewich Folk & Boat Festival 2006 From: Dave Roberts Date: 18 Jun 06 - 08:29 AM The Boar's Head session was indeed excellent. I was particularly pleased to see an old friend from many years ago, Richard Peach, among the fiddle players. His virtuoso performance of 'Molly Malone' (instigated by Ian Murfit who also led the vocals) was astonishing. My own contribution was limited to smiling inanely at everyone and drinking copious amounts of beer. So no change there. |
Subject: RE: Middlewich Folk & Boat Festival 2006 From: GUEST,Rob the Roadie Date: 18 Jun 06 - 07:16 AM Well Saturday what a day .Lets see if I can remeber it through the haze. Had lunch outside the Marquue then on to the White Lion for a session with Tim Mundy. Back to Marquee to catch the end of Tom Doughty and all of Karine Polwart ,SUPERB! Next Beeze and Wilson in the Narrow boat. Why oh why are they not on the main programme? A bite to eat then the Boars head for Keith Donnelly, and Kirsty Magee. Finishing with a great session downstairs. Not sure how I got home. |
Subject: RE: Middlewich Folk & Boat Festival 2006 From: GUEST,Rob the Roadie Date: 17 Jun 06 - 06:31 AM So far so good . Friday night and I only got as far as the Boars Head. Got a bit of Keith Donnelly, some excellent floor spots and of course I have to mention my band (the one Im roadie for) Anne Taggart and Angie Wright. They did two great songs to much applause. Even Keith Donnelly liked them. Then of course there was someone called Johnathan Kelly suffering badly from laryngitis and no doubt the heat put on a good performance.I would realy liked to have seen more of him in good form. Loved the Mrs Gilbert song. Then the heat upstairs got the better of me and down to the roaring session in the bar for more from Taggart and Wright and others; Trevor and Vicki Williams, Rosie, Jim John and Babs, fantastic knot tying by Ken (Father Christmas), and Alison Parker and the Third Man. Then home to bed. Back on Saturday for more? OH YES! |
Subject: RE: Middlewich Folk & Boat Festival 2006 From: Dave Roberts Date: 16 Jun 06 - 12:58 PM Josher, You're right. It is a blow, but we're at pains to make it clear that it's not of our doing. The decision was made by the Folk Festival when Nick Burbridge had to pull out. But, with all due respect to Nick and Dom Collins too Breakfast With Barker is Breakfast with Barker and I'm sure Les will not take offence when I remark that there's no show without Punch. I spoke to Les when he did a gig for us here at Easter. He too was disappointed not to be here this weekend for what,as you rightly say, has become something of an institution. We very much hope that 2007 will see a return to the status quo. You may make up your own jokes based on the last sentence. |
Subject: RE: Middlewich Folk & Boat Festival 2006 From: greg stephens Date: 16 Jun 06 - 09:46 AM Well we're not on the actual festival bill, but the Boat Band played last night(Thursday) for the hotpot supper for the boaties who had arrived, so we feel things are now off to a good start. Have a nice weekend everyone. |
Subject: RE: Middlewich Folk & Boat Festival 2006 From: Josher Date: 16 Jun 06 - 08:46 AM The loss of the Salt Town Poets Breakfast with--, is a blow, First we lose Les Barker and now the whole thing is a non starter. It means one of the Festival's institutions has dissapeared, I hope not forever???? What is the world coming too????? Josher |
Subject: RE: Middlewich Folk & Boat Festival 2006 From: GUEST,Rob the Roadie Date: 15 Jun 06 - 04:43 PM Better mention the daughter, Jannena ( think I spelt in correctly)who will be dancing at all the celidighs (????) and is a wizz on flute and John "Dixie" Taggart a superb pianist who fiddles with an accordian if you know what I mean. Dont you just hate families with that depth of talent!! |
Subject: RE: Middlewich Folk & Boat Festival 2006 From: GUEST,Rob the Roadie Date: 15 Jun 06 - 04:38 PM Do not miss the wild women of folk. For those who do not know they are Taggart and Wright. They are on at the Narrow Boat on Sunday at 3.00 til 4.30. They are women of an age who should know better. They should have learned after their appearance last month at the Chester Folk festival but they just never learn. Watch out they may be next to you in one of the sessions or sing-arounds. Fortunately they will be easy to spot. Just watch out for the T-Shirts! |
Subject: RE: Middlewich Folk & Boat Festival 2006 From: GUEST,Busy Lizzy Date: 14 Jun 06 - 05:52 PM Yes sadly as it is not our policy to cancel events unless we absolutely have to. Nick Burbridge is unwell and resourses short for making an alternative happen, unfortunately as the front man for McDermotts 2 Hours they too have had to pull out, but you can still find Dominic and The Salt Town Poets very busy on the Fringe - did I just see Keith Donnelly walk past??? I do believe it was.... |
Subject: RE: Middlewich Folk & Boat Festival 2006 From: Dave Roberts Date: 12 Jun 06 - 03:50 PM Sorry one and all for claiming in another thread that this, the original M-FAB 2006 thread, had somehow mysteriously disappeared. It hasn't, of course. But what has disappeared, albeit not mysteriously, is the planned Sunday morning Boar's Head concert with the Salt Town Poets, Nick Burbridge and Dominic Collins. This is due to circumstances beyond the festival's control. |
Subject: RE: Middlewich Folk & Boat Festival 2006 From: GUEST,Tom Bliss Date: 12 Jun 06 - 12:46 PM Correction: Sadly I'm not going to be doing a workshop (or MCing) this year due to unforeseen circs.. but we're on a promise for next year (are we not Liz)? I'll even come by boat (as long as the fee covers two weeks before and after travel time)! ;-) Hope you all have a wonderful time - it's a magic combination and a brilliant atmosphere. Tom |

Subject: RE: Middlewich Folk & Boat Festival 2006 From: GUEST,Sid Date: 21 Feb 06 - 08:22 AM I take it you'll be using that fantastic amphitheatre space in the middle of the town again this year? What a brilliant open-air venue that is. I bet there's a lot of other towns wish they had something like that. |
Subject: RE: Middlewich Folk & Boat Festival 2006 From: sinpelo Date: 20 Feb 06 - 02:57 PM I think Sidmouth is crap! That's why I've never been in my entire life, refused to allow anyone to tell me about it and never read a review. I've had Sidmouth blotted out of every map I own and won't allow my family to utter the name. Don't tell me about Sidmouth! It's crap! |
Subject: RE: Middlewich Folk & Boat Festival 2006 From: Dave Roberts Date: 20 Feb 06 - 02:03 PM Yes. Hard to see how Middlewich could ever work without a marquee. Incidentally, we forgot to mention that we're also going to be presenting a Performance Poetry Workshop at the Boar's Head on Saturday morning 10am-11am. Dave, Ian and That Big Tall Bloke, The Salt Town poets |
Subject: RE: Middlewich Folk & Boat Festival 2006 From: Busy Lizzy Date: 20 Feb 06 - 01:08 PM Who said no marquee? Naughty, spreading rumours.... Welcome to the Salt Town Poets they are great ambassadors to MFAB... ....and keep a look out for the launch of the MFAB website... any day now, on line ticket bookings, e-mail newsletter, discussion forum... early bird bookings.... artist interviews, we are really working hard on it all right now... www.midfest.org see you there.... |
Subject: RE: Middlewich Folk & Boat Festival 2006 From: Dave Roberts Date: 20 Feb 06 - 07:56 AM Hi there. The Salt Town Poets' contributions to M-FAB 2006 have now been sorted out. Middlewich Open Mike returns to its traditional 5pm spot on Saturday afternoon at the Boar's Head (where the winner of this year's John Brunker Trophy will be announced). We have a Sunday morning (11am)concert (upstairs at the Boar's Head) with Nick Burbridge and Dominic Collins. Then, following last year's successful event, we'll be back at the Golden Lion on Sunday evening with 'Poetry & Pints' starting at 8pm, with guests including Richard Faulkner and Mark Bailey (The Trent Vale Poet). Guest performers are, as always, welcome at both Open Mike Night and 'Poetry & Pints'- and we're talking about performers of all kinds; poets, singers, musicians, jugglers, acrobats (subject to space limitations)rogues, vagabonds, wandering minstrels and ne'er do wells. If you'd like to make sure of a spot, please e-mail us on salttownpoets@aol.com or phone us on 01606 833404 Take a look at our rather bewildering website at www.salttownpoets.co.uk Thank you for your time, Dave, Ian & Mike, The Salt Town Poets |
