September 11 Songs?

I would like to pick up a song or two about September 11 for my repertoire. The only ones I know of are the one by Tom Paxton, "The Bravest" or something; and "There Are No Words" by Kitty Donohoe.

Any other suggestions? Accessibility to the words and music is also a factor. Thanks for whatever help the group can give me.

It's on the CD "The Colour of Dreams" CDTRAX 237.

Lynn Noel wrote a great one right after Sept. 11 -- to the tune of "Rueben James".

The Album "Zero Church Street" by Suzzie and Maggie Roche (and others) is a meditation on the events of 9/11. Particular cuts: New York City, a Prayer; Jeremiah; Also Springsteen's album The Rising is full of cuts: Into the Fire, Empty Sky, My City of Ruins.

Yes, Jeri, there was a lot of songwriting about 9/11 here at Mudcat back in late 2001, as well as postings of earlier-written songs that were fitting.   I recommend checking out those threads if anyone's looking for songs about those events.

Keith Donnelly (UK) wrote a great 9/11 song called Two Tall Trees. You can find the lyrics for it here, but I think you probably have to get touch with him for the tune.

I would dearly love to know who wrote "Remember Me" in that thread. It's a fine piece of writing and I'd like to put a tune to it if it doesn't have one or hear it if it does.

There are two really great songs about 9/11 I know. One is by Lorcan Otway (InOBU), the other one by Les Barker, unfortunately no more on his site.

I recommend Fourth Of July by David Francey, a great Canadian songwriter (despite the title, the song is about 9/11). It's on his 2004 album The Waking Hour. You can check him out at his web site, www.davidfrancey.com.

I am in to country and Alan Jackson's song "Where were You When the World, etc is a moving piece. Quite possibly the most definitive expression of feelings about the subject.

It’s a long time ago, but would any mudcatter by any chance remember an event that occurred in the first year of the 21st millennium, sometimes referred to as “911”?

On September 9, all those years ago ,way back in 2001, there was a terrible attack on the World Trade Center in New York carried out by a terrorist organization called Al Qaida in which thousands of innocent people lost their lives. Most decent-minded people felt upset and angry about the killings at the time.

I seem to remember that there were poems and even a few folk-style songs written about the tragedy...........maybe in the Mudcat database?

It must all seem like ancient history while you are celebrating the fall of Damascus, I know , but just to remind you that the terrorist group that killed all those innocent people all those years ago in New York is the same group now in control of Syria .
