Subject: Ed Rennie & Jackie Oates, Guildford 27/1 From: Surreysinger Date: 20 Jan 06 - 08:11 PM There are still a few tickets available for the Music Institute's club night at the Guildford Institute in Ward Street, Guildford, Surrey on 27th January at 8pm, when Ed Rennie (well known melodeon player from the Bismarcks, singer, bouzouki and guitar player of this parish, and famed (by Electric Voices anyway) as being far funnier than he looks!) will be appearing at the Music Institute (previously known as the Good Old Way Folk Club) with Jackie Oates (young rising fiddle-singer from Devon). To order tickets or to obtain further information please see the Electric Voices website at http://www.electricvoices.org.uk |
Subject: RE: Ed Rennie & Jackie Oates, Guildford 27/1 From: GUEST,cardboard cutout Date: 21 Jan 06 - 05:30 AM I'm very partisan, for easily apparent reasons, but I hope Ed & Jackie get the opportunity to work together frequently in the coming summer. They do rather good workshops as well. Hope the Music Institute is packed out! |

Subject: RE: Ed Rennie & Jackie Oates, Guildford 27/1 From: breezy Date: 21 Jan 06 - 01:33 PM Jackie Oates has my vote, she's also being supported by a few luminaries from the Devon area. A rising star, voice and fiddle and all else All the best to J O |
Subject: RE: Ed Rennie & Jackie Oates, Guildford 27/1 From: Surreysinger Date: 21 Jan 06 - 04:51 PM Sorry Cardboard cutout, but your easily apparent reasons for being partisan aren't apparent to me.... I must be particularly dense!! I certainly echo your hope that the Music InstituteClub is packed out next Friday. Ed actually founded the Good Old Way club in Farncombe nearby, and ran it until he moved down to Devon, at which point the whole thing "died". After a period of a couple of years the club was resurrected by Lawrence Heath at the original premises in January 2005 and Ed was the first guest. The name was retained with his permission when the club moved to Guildford in September 2005,and has only been changed in January this year. So obviously he has many friends in the area, and is also very much a favourite - so a sell out would be REALLY good!! (:-) |
Subject: RE: Ed Rennie & Jackie Oates, Guildford 27/1 From: The Borchester Echo Date: 22 Jan 06 - 07:54 AM I know why 'cardboard cutout' is so partisan and quite right too. Not just because of Jackie but her equally talented brother too. |
Subject: RE: Ed Rennie & Jackie Oates, Guildford 27/1 From: GUEST,cardboard cutout Date: 22 Jan 06 - 10:27 AM Hi Surrey singer, I'm sorry, I didn't been to be oblique, and you're not dense - it's more that I hesitate and am diffident about typing messages concerning my own family. Jackie's my daughter. Will try not to gatecrash Mudcat to publicise (or defend, sometimes) again. I know about the history of your club too, and know therefore that Ed is likely to sell it out. And quite right too. |
Subject: RE: Ed Rennie & Jackie Oates, Guildford 27/1 From: Surreysinger Date: 22 Jan 06 - 11:42 AM Hi Cardboard cutout - from Countess Richard's posting I'd hazarded a guess that it was family - and quite rightly partisan too!! Can't see anything wrong with posting a partisan message myself, and anyway I wouldn't have thought that constituted gatecrashing.I forgot to say in my earlier posting that Jackie was, of course, present at the club's reopening night and did a very good extended spot in the second half, so she's got a history with it too!! Having only posted two days ago to say that tickets were still available, I'm happy to say that the evening is now sold out, probably as a result of announcements at Last Night's Fun's concert on Friday night....so, if you were thinking of coming along and getting tickets on the door on the night, I'm afraid it's too late now.... yet again good news for the club, but sad news if you haven't got a ticket! If you're interested in buying tickets for later events (Pete Coe in February, James Raynard in March, etc) you can order them online direct from Lawrence Heath ....see the website details quoted earlier. |
