The United Partisans Organization, (FPO) armed resistance movement
formally organized within the Vilna ghetto on 1/21/1942[/center]
Glik escaped the ghetto, was caught, then escaped the concentration camp and died in the Baltic woods fighting Germans. A Treasury of Jewish Folksong, Ruth Rubin; 1950 & also Folk Song Encyclopedia, Jerry Silverman
1/21-29 is the 15th "Zora Neale Hurston Festival of Arts and Humanities," held in her birthblace. She was born in Eatonville, FL in 1903 (and in 1891 per Library of Congress; and also several other years; died 1/28/1960) On the outskirts of Orlando, Eatonville was the 1st (some dispute this but who cares?) US African-American township; incorporated 1887 & still independent.
Not many other folklorists (including Burns) get a Festival that is celebrated by virtually every citizen & building of their home town. We generally go - can we pick up a djibouti for anyone? Actually, Tinker usually walks with a nice carved olivewood Zimbabwean cane but it broke last week. I'm pretty sure we can get a new one at the Fest.
