Subject: Tune Add: Kat's poem adapted into song by Alba!
From: katlaughing
Date: 23 Jan 06 - 02:11 PM

I am delighted to let you all know Alba/Jude has added more lyrics and a tune to my poem, "Waves Of Sorrow," which was first posted here, at the Mudcat, and included in my book, "WindWords of Wyoming." The lyrics to the song are also in my book.

I think she has done a beautiful job, but I am honour bound to tell you the sound file is a "Border Collie," i.e. "rough/ruff" according to Herself. Redone and beautifully mixed version coming soon on a new CD, "Breathe."

Please visit and give a listen, as well as enjoy the photos of Alba and (scroll down) the Waves at Taransay, Scotland.

Waves of Sorrow - the song.

Thanks!

Tripod seems to have had some problems this past weekend. I was only able to get in this morning to add the pictures, etc.
Just tried it and got in okay.
The sound file works for me in QuickTime.

Please keep trying if interested.

Forgot to say, the webdesign is "rough," too. (Can't get that green line deleted.):->

Thanks!

Yeah, that's the one I sent it to; sent two files, not sure which will work best. Thanks, MMario!

One of these days I will get a domain name and move everything over; tripod has been an old faithful for many years, but it does get frustrating at times!

Hey Kat,

There is absolutely nothing like seeing your name in print on a words by tag for a song you helped to write. Nothing at all. I'm still that way over every song I have written.

Congratulations, and enjoy the moment.

Don

Ah...thanks y'all. It'd a put it up earlier, but Herself is a bit shy about "tooting" her own horn. I think she's one of the most talented we've got. Wait 'til you hear more!

She has a phenomenal voice and her phrasing is wonderful. Her writing is excellent. I am a fan of hers and I don't see that changin' anytime soon. I wish I could listen to what's on the link.

Huzzah!!! I will certainly buy a copy. But I must disagree with Peace. There's one line I would have changed. Coming from a crumudgeon like me, that's high praise. Besides, I love contraltos, best range of them all.

The writing ("Waves of Sorrow") is katlaughing's, and the music/singing are Alba's. However, both are excellent here. also. My reference to Alba's voice and writing is in reference to a CD of hers. That gal can do jazz, rockish stuff, and she has one song on it that I listen to at least twice a week and have for at least eight or nine months now. It is beautiful, heart rending (seldom fails to bring a tear to my eye) and her voice on that cut would make a bishop put his foot through a stained glass window.

Thanks for the offer, kat. For some reason the link worked just about ten minutes back. You must feel wonderful hearing your poem turned into a beautiful song. And beautiful it is.

Yeah!!!!

Thanks, again, folks! Peace, I am glad yo got to hear it, finally.

For those who might want to track the evolution of the song, here is the original "first draft" of the poem, which was posted spontaneously on the Mudcat back kin 2000:

THE BRIDE OF THE WAVES OF SORROW

Oh, does thou know then
Of my heart, o weary man of sea?
It bends and breaks unto the ground
My love belongs to thee.
Stay not thou, only longer
An hour by my side?
For I, a simple woman be,
Yet, the sea, she is your bride
In sorrow now I wander
Midst the braken and the ruin
Lost thou I have, alas, now then
The sea take me to my doom.

Then gather'd he, at midnight's rest
Saw her ghostly pale divide

Twixt mournful sea and shore,
When he came in on the weary tide.
With despair, his heart, he lost it
Out on the brine that night
And, knew not another, ever more
No mortal woman's delight.
His maiden, bride and mistress,
La Mer, called him out sad, but brave,
And there he dwelt on the Waves of Sorrow
'Til he joined True Love in her grave.

For anyone who wants to hear more of what Alba/Judi has done and also Mudcat's own "Pinetop Slim" aka Mark Flanagan, please visit his page at CDBaby. Judi sings his poem "Postcards from the Fleadh," and song "Fire at Slane". I also highly recommend listening to Mark doing "...On Fireflies" and "The Legend of McKinley Craft." "Spotted Pony" written by Mark and performed by Aubrey Atwater is a fav. of mine, too!

Thanks!
