You've been playin' soldier, the battle has been won, The enemy is out of sight, Come along there soldier, put away your gun, The war is over for tonight . . . "Last night we spoke of love, and now we have to part, you leave to the sound of marchin' drum and the beat of a Lover's heart and this round which i heard from Bryan Bowers... I am a poor one nothing do i own i give you my heart i think there are some cultures that do not attribute the feelings of love to the heart but to the brain, or elsewhere. I wonder how the heart go to be synonymous with love..it really is only a pump, after all. a love pump? |

Subject: RE: Heart Songs From: Q (Frank Staplin) Date: 31 Dec 04 - 03:42 PM All the great happy heart songs, but the one that comes to my mind first is "Your Cheatin' Heart" by Hank Williams. We had great fun singing it after a few drinks. (It's in the DT) |
Subject: RE: Heart Songs From: KentuckyPat Date: 31 Dec 04 - 02:03 PM Yes, Jean, I have a beloved copy of "Heartsongs," too. I used to live in Sharpsburg, Maryland near the Antietam battlefield. My home was shelled during the battle, and later was used as a "hospital" housing both Confederate and Union wounded. Years later in 1990, I was in the attic putting away boxes of Christmas ornaments. I found an old box of books under the eves. "Heartsongs" was in the box! We used it in 1996 to find popular Civil War Songs. We performed them when the Town of Sharpsburg put on the play "Quilt Voices" during the Sharpsburg Heritage Festival. From your fan, a dulcimer-player, Pat |

Subject: RE: Heart Songs From: Mudlark Date: 06 May 04 - 01:43 AM Guest Gord...that's from Little Man, You've had a Busy Day. It's on the Mudcat Blue Bottle Special CD. Glad the project went well. Probably wouldn't have worked anyway but one of my fav. heart songs is The queen of hearts is the ace of sorrow She is here today and gone tomorrow Young men are plenty but sweethearts few If my love leaves me, what shall I do? I loved to hear my Ozark neighbor singing Juanita while out picking beans...tho it took me a moment to catch on. "Neeter, Wan-neeter," in a voice as high and sweet as a bird's. |

Subject: RE: Heart Songs From: Amos Date: 03 May 04 - 08:09 PM I don't. but I know the kind of song that must be in it...sounds like a fine book. I remember how struck I was the first time I heard Sandy Paton singing "I Wandered Today to the Hill, Maggie", which was a family fireside song from my childhood, but somehow not one I thought of as a folk-song. But in Sandy's hands, there was no question about its genuineness. Is that the sort of tune? A |
Subject: RE: Heart Songs From: kytrad (Jean Ritchie) Date: 03 May 04 - 07:42 PM I have a beloved book in my library- it's called, HEART SONGS. It used to have pride of place on the tall organ in our front room. Had all the great old songs of the Turn-of-the-Century, and I still treasure it. Perhaps a few songs with "Heart" in the title, but not many; it's the collection itself, and the memories it brings, that has the 'heart.' Anybody elso know this book? |
Subject: Lyr Add: PEG O' MY HEART (Alfred Bryan/Fred Fisher From: Jim Dixon Date: 02 May 04 - 10:41 PM This has been mentioned in several threads; odd that it hasn't been posted. From The Lester S. Levy Collection of Sheet Music: PEG O' MY HEART Words, Alfred Bryan. Music, Fred Fisher. 1913. 1. Oh! my heart's in a whirl over one little girl. I love her. I love her, yes, I do. Altho' her heart is far away, I hope to make her mine some day. Ev'ry beautiful rose, ev'ry violet knows, I love her. I love her fond and true; And her heart fondly sighs as I sing to her eyes, Her eyes of blue, sweet eyes of blue, my darling! CHORUS: Peg o' my heart, I love you, We'll never part, I love you, Dear little girl, sweet little girl, Sweeter than the rose of Erin, Are your winning smiles endearin' Peg o' my heart, your glances With Irish art entrance us, Come, be my own, come make your home in my heart. 2. When your heart's full of fears, and your eyes full of tears, I'll kiss them. I'll kiss them all away; For, like the gold that's in your hair, Is all the love for you I bear. O, believe in me, do. I'm as lonesome as you. I miss you. I miss you all the day. Let the light of love shine from your eyes into mine, And shine for aye, sweetheart, for aye, my darling! [This song always reminds me of "Sing Along with Mitch (Miller)."] |
Subject: RE: Heart Songs From: RS Date: 21 Feb 99 - 02:45 PM Thanks for all your suggestions & input! My son [see top of this thread for details] finally ended up using the song "I Have a Heart" ("...and it leads me all the way, to your love and a very special day"), by Fred Penner, as the background to a very sentimental 100th anniversary Aspirin ad. And he got 100% on his project! Thanks again to all who responded...the brainstorming really helped! - RS |

Subject: RE: From: Barbara Date: 25 Jan 99 - 10:21 AM You could also incorporate some salad prep, or vegies, as there are a number that have 'hearts': artichoke, celery, lettuce, cabbage; maybe give someone a "I heart my dog" or whatever, maybe even "I heart my heart" maybe somewhere he could have a little oscilloscope with a heartbeat on the monitor. Subject: From: RS Date: 24 Jan 99 - 09:55 PM For his high school advertising class, my son is preparing a mock television commercial for Aspirin, highlighting its new role in prevention of heart attacks. For the background, he wants to include as many songs as possible, which include the word "heart". So far we have come up with the following list: Heart & Soul; My Heart will go on & on; Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Heart's Club Band; You've Got to have Heart; My Achy Breaky Heart; Born Free ... to follow your heart; Inside ... is where you'll find the heart of the matter. Also, he plans to work a pun on the word "heart" into each image of the advertisement, such as - a child playing the card game Hearts; an Alice in Wonderland book open to a picture of the King of Hearts; a biology text open to a picture of the heart; etc. Any additional ideas you might have would be much appreciated!
