Subject: Folk Clubs/Sessions in SW England?

Hi all

We've just got booked at the Cornwall Folk Festival over the August Bank Holiday and were thinking of pootling around Devon and Cornwall the week before. Does any know of any folk clubs or sessions that we could look in at while we're there? We'd be leaving the Midlands on Sunday 20th August and have to be in Wadebridge for Friday 25th, so anything that runs from Sunday-Thursday in either county would be great. I've had a quick look on Google and come up with a few places but I know from experience that there's often loads of events that don't register on large search engines! Any pointers would be much appreciated!

Thanks in advance!

Chris from Isambarde

PS - Our fiddle player has family around the Barnstaple-Bideford area so anything around there would be doubly great!

Hi Chris,
Anahata and I are around for the festival and the week after - Aug 29th - Sept 1st when we are doing Bodmin Folk Club.
We could meet up and have a session or two during the festival - I am told it is very relaxed and that sort of event happens spontaneously.

Sounds good to me! Didn't we meet at Miskin last year?

There is folk club (singing) at the Crabshell Inn, Kingsbridge on a Thurs Night, There is a more musicky session with some singing every Wednesday in Galmpton near Kingsbridge and there is an Irish Sesh on Tuesday nights in the Kingsbridge Inn in Totnes. Galmpton usually does it's own little folk fest between Sidmouth and Dartmoor Festival dates.

Hope that's helpful

Sarah

I think the Crabshell is only on the first Thursday, so it wouldn't be on that week. In fact it's a difficult time of year, because some sessions and clubs shut down anyway because of clashes with festivals etc.

Check out the South Devon possibilities on www.harbertonfolk.co.uk. This is kept pretty well up-to-date so it's worth looking up at the last minute.

Cheers,
Marje

Hi Chris and anyone coming to the west country.

Come to Bideford!
In fact, Chris, if you came a week earlier you could come to Bideford Folk Festival which is on from Mon 14th August - Sunday 20th. Singarounds and sessions throughout the week plus various concerts etc.

For more information see
http://bidefordfolkfestival.co.uk
Or, if this blue clicky works, :-
http://bidefordfolkfestival.co.uk

We'd also love to see you (and anyone else) at BIDEFORD FOLK CLUB which is at the Joiners Arms, behind the Pannier Market in Bideford every Thursday night throughout the year. Starts about 8.0pm Most weeks it's a singaround where 'anything goes' and we love visitors.

Anyone wanting more info please PM me.

Sue

In addition to the above, there are song and music sessions every Monday at the Torridge Inn, Black Torrington; every Tuesday at the Bridge House Hotel, Bampton; 3rd Sunday (i.e. 20th, if you're not too tired after your drive down) at the Red Lion, Chulmleigh - all in North Devon.

Have fun!

Barbara
