A talented flute player who used to be a regular at our local session moved to Waterford a few years ago and young Danny is still there - as far as I know..............

There are a number of sessions in Tramore during the week.
On Tuesday night is a session in Alfie Hales Bar, Wednesday night a session in The Leger bar and on Thursday night a session in O'Neill's bar. There are some great musicians at these sessions as well as some great singers (and some great songs).

a bluegrass festival in Dunmore East sounds familiar. I have obviously never been, but i must have met someone who did at somestage. I see in Waterford city in August (I think) they have a sproai festival.(pronounce sproai???) more modern, tribal drumming kind of feel. I also hear T&H Doolans, Kiernan's and Katty Barry's are good places in the city. I also bizzrely met a man in my local pub last night who is from a place called Donhill I believe. The local pub, Harney's is a good singing venue, also nearby Tramore apparantly hosts a few midweek sessions.
Amazing the small world in wich we live.
and so onwards......

the Dunmore East bluegrass festival is at the tail end of August, coincides with Fleadh Cheol na hÉireann (but this year the two events will be at opposite ends of the island)

About 17 years ago my husband and I visited The Marine Bar at Pulla, just outside Waterford. There was a fantastic session there which went on and on!
Cheers, Lucy

Dunmore East is a beautiful village with a strong tradition of bluegrass music: it hosts a bluegrass festival I think every year.

Ta for the idea's. sounds good to me. What i often find, is i go to someplace, have a few good nights, return, to be told, "Did you go to so and so's......" No?" "Great place i should have told you beforehand....." you know how it goes. so if any of ye have names for little hamlets anywhere that you discovered, please post. Will do as suggested above anyway.
Till Later
Cheerio!

Hi Richard.
Ask up at the Forum Theatre where the local sessions are in Waterford City itself. The Folks there are always in the "know"
You could also ask around and find out where Willie Green (a native Waterford Musician and character, wonderful singer) is playing. That should take you off the beaten track in the City.
Willie or his Father, Paddy will be more than able to tell you where the sessions are happening all around the Waterford County Area.
Great City, Great people. I Love it myself.
Enjoy your time there.
Congrats of your 1st post:>)

Whilst on holiday in Southern Ireland, I stayed in Waterford, Cork, Killarney etc etc.....I went unprepared for the Folk scene there but asked local people what was happening and soon got to know. Most people know which pubs have live music or if the are Caelidhs in the area. I managed to find something every night...YES every night! Just ask when you get there. They will tell you all you need to know.
Best wishes, Mike.

Waterford City. Passage East. Dunmore East. Tramore. Bunmahan Kilmeaden. Stradbally. Kill. Dungarvan and Helvick.

if anyone has visited any of these give me your thoughts, suggestions and opinions.
