Subject: Lyr Add: WILLOW TREE From: Nick Date: 29 Jan 06 - 06:55 PM WILLOW TREE As I pass by a willow tree, willow tree That willow leaf blew down on me I picked it up, it would not break I've passed my love, he would not speak O, speak, young man, and don't be shy, be shy For I'm the girl can't pass you by For friends we've met and friends will part You'll take my hand but not my heart I wished your bosom were of glass, of glass So I could view it through and through Just to view those secrets of your heart If I'd love one, I can't love two Oh, give me back to the one I love, I love Oh, give, oh, give him back to me If I only have that one I love How happy, happy more I'd be My love he is a sailor boy, sailor boy He sails the ocean through and through And when he gets so far away He hardly thinks no more of me So give, oh, give him back to me, to me Oh, give, oh, give him back to me If I only have that one I love How happy, happy more I'd be |

Subject: RE: Lyrics and chords for Willow tree as sun From: Malcolm Douglas Date: 29 Jan 06 - 09:06 PM If that's the song that "bobcat" wanted, then we should provide proper source information. Eliza Carthy recorded an arrangement of the song as recorded by Fred Hamer from May Bradley of Ludlow, Shropshire, on 28 July 1965; though Eliza originally learned it via Danny Stradling. See Garry Gillard's website for a lyric comparison: http://garrygillard.net/eliza/willow.html |
Subject: RE: Lyrics and chords for Willow tree as sun From: GUEST,bobcat Date: 31 Jan 06 - 01:42 PM Thanks everyone. It is the version Nick sent that I am looking for...as sung by liza carthy. Thanks for all the background. Also for the chord suggestions. Is this the best key to be singing this? |
Subject: RE: Lyrics and chords for Willow tree as sun From: Nick Date: 31 Jan 06 - 08:43 PM It's where my wife sings it. That's usually right for me ;) It's fairly low compared with where she pitches things but seems to work well. I think it's similar to where Liza sings it too. In fact I just had a listen to the CD and she does sing it in G. I had the pleasure of hearing her sing it recently in a village hall close to here with her fine band. We also love doing 'Ain't No Sweet Man Worth the Salt of My Tears' which she sings with her mum which is also great fun to do. |
