On a scaffold erected outside the banqueting hall of Whitehall
on the morning of Tuesday, Jan 30, 1649,
Charles I (b.11/19/1600) was executed for high treason
and "other high crimes against the realm of England."

They bored a hole in Oliver's nose and pulled therein a string    [ie, Cromwell]
And drew him around about the town
        For murdering Charles our King
        For murdering Charles our King

We might have another Charles to play with soon... reminds me of the old school punctuation exercise, "King Charles walked and talked half an hour after they cut off his head"

So, was he hanged, or beheaded?

Charles I was beheaded. Cromwell's nose job was post-mortem. Charles II had Cromwell exhumed and beheaded.

So he didn't 'swing' then. I thought not.

If you had called it 'Charles I for the chop' we might have had a foodie thread.
