This was spurred from another thread-did a "search" and it didn't come up, so jest wonderin'. A lot of us "stateside" types grew up with the Hanna/Barbera cartoon SHOWS-now I'm not talkin' here about stuff at the movies. Just TV (although there was some crossover-maybe a lot). You U.K. folks musta had some too.

Flinstones, Jetsons, Yogi Bear, Quick Draw McGraw, to name a few of the H/B ones; Top Cat, Bugs Bunny Show, ANY of the Disney stuff that made it on (although I don't remember a Disney series-brain fart; they were usually part of the "Mickey Mouse Club.") Speed Racer, Smurfs, Felix the Cat etc. Then we got some more current ones...South Park, The Simpsons, Beavis & Butthead, King of the Hill.

Any favs out there? I was always partial to the "Jetsons"-all that futuristic stuff, some of which was quite imaginative. For outright anarchy, gotta be "South Park" these days IMO. Anyone else care to join in on this harmless (I think!), totally void-of-significance thread? Thanks. And actually, I'd really like to know.

hands down - The Simpsons   

Not only a great cartoon, but one of the msot brilliant TV series of all-time.

My second choice is the Batman cartoon series.   The art captured both the spirit of Tim Burton's films as well as the Max Fleischer "Superman" cartoons of the 40's.

My third choice would be Max Flesicher's Superman.

Sponge-Bob was cool in the first season or two. The Justic League is brilliant.

Ug... The Simpsons... The series that needed to stop 5+ years ago... I'd a had them on my list, but for the fact that the last 5 seasons or so are so bad as to make me wonder if they were written by machines...

I rather liked Top Cat, and the looney tunes critters-especially the ones where Bugs was in a Wagner opera or outwitting gangsters. Some of my favorite cartoons were not on during prime kid time Saturday morning, but odd times--the "follow the bouncing ball" sing a long cartoons. They were made before I was born, & the songs were the songs of my grandparents. I always sang along, too.

Duck Tales was enjoyable years ago when I used to watch it with my little niece. Recently picked up a 3 DVD set of it for my nephews.

The Simpsons can still hit a home run in my opinion.   Re-watching the early seasons, you can see the show did not hit its stride. Some of the current episodes seem to follow a formula, but they still manage to provide brilliant satire.

I was referring to Batman:The Animated Series as well as The Adventures of Batman and Robin, both came out in the 90's. The new series, The Batman, is pretty good as well.

...but have you been watching the Simpsons? It sounds like you gave up on it, and if that is the case, you might be missing something! The Christmas show that aired last month was terrific - Homer's retelling of the story of Jesus was priceless. Or how about when Sprinfield decided to legalize same-sex marriage?    The show may not be great every week, but it still is better than most shows on TV.

I don't care for South Park at all. Never did. Though I love the irreverence, I just can't get past the lousy animation and the fact that I can't understand what some of the characters are saying most of the time.

Guess I'm just getting old.

Hey, thanks for the tip SRS. Try to remember that one (lotsa "tricks" around here).

I disagree with anyone who say "The Simpsons" has lost their edge, or writing. As usual, that's MHO. Frankly, it seems rather tame these days. Seems like someone voted in an actual poll for Marge Simpson to be "mother of the year." Anyway, interesting reponses so far.

Hadn't thought of those old Superman cartoons...some of those were really artistic, and oughtta be in some kind of "film museum." Guess I was thinking more of the plethora of series out during the 60's and into the 70's. But this has broadened the horizons a bit--not a bad thing!

Rocky and Bullwinkle and I always especially looked forward to The Fractured Fairy Tales segment and Tom Terrific with his wonder dog the Mighty Manfred and Mr. Magoo.

It's too bad they never did a cartoon of the Don Martin characters, Fester Bestertester and Karbunkle. I loved the way their feet wrapped around things.

Yeah--was a BIG fan of Don Martin (now deceased) from MAD. I think in the earliest years, "MAD TV" (which had literally little to do with MAD magazine) had some Don Martin cartoons. Then it went to "Spy vs Spy"--now? WHo knows. the whole cast has turned over more than SNL in 3 seasons, and their connection to Mad Magazine is spurious at best.

But DID like those Don Martin cartoons--in the mag. I don't think they ever caame to TV.

I always liked those collections of cartoons, Looney Tunes and such, that played for a half-hour or an hour at a time, usually before school (so we didn't get to watch them very often).

As kids we loved Rocky and Bullwinkle and pretty consistently watched Underdog. Back when there weren't many cartoon programs on Saturday mornings, we used to watch an odd one called Space Angel. I hear that one has made a rather odd comeback as a talkshow.

The voice of "Jace", the young male sidekick in that series was the same guy who was the voice for Jonny Quest... Tim Matheson, who played "Otter" in Animal House and the sheriff in Wolf Lake.

While I've only seen it on a computer screen, my current favourite cartoon is....... Angry Kid!

When I was young it was Rocky and Bullwinkle and now I find Family Guy a bit of a hoot. Also I really liked The Max and although I spent some time watching Pinky and the Brain with my daughter too, I'm not certain I'd call it one of my favourites.

As a small child, I was obsessed with Star Blazers. I haven't seen it since 1982 and I never did get hooked on anime the way some people seem to (I was a Voltron fan later but that didn't do any permanent damage, either).

I probably watched Transformers the most, although my mother didn't like it. The series I liked best from the Eighties were Transformers and Smurfs. The other series that I remember but didn't usually watch include the Littles, Shirt-Tails, Muppet Babies (never did like that one), Thundercats, He-Man/She-Ra, My Little Ponies, and G.I. Joe, which pretty much dates me as an official Child of the Eighties.

I've been a devoted watcher of the Simpsons for years, and I like King of the Hill.



I recently picked up some Betty Boop, Felix the Cat, and Superman for $1 a DVD at Target. Cheesy, but I love old animation.

My all-time favorite is the Silly Symphonies Skeleton Dance, from 1929.

Bugs Bunny and the rest of the Looney Toons gang. Something for everyone there.

Jonny Quest, which I watched as re-runs in the 70s.

Rocky and Bullwinkle, especially Mr. Peabody and his boy Sherman and the Way-back Machine.

I, too, was addicted to Star Blazers and I actually have the first four episodes on VHS. It didn't age well...

As for current stuff, I love South Park. The crappy animation and unintelligible voices are part of the joke. The other one I like a lot but rarely get to see is Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends.

It turns up in a search as Space Angel. But I see that the new program, while very similar in appearance to the old cartoon, is the one called "Space Ghost," not Space Angel. I have only heard about the new program, but used to watch the old one many many years ago.

Ah. Two different cartoons, Stilly. I hadn't ever seen Space Angel, but it is Space Ghost that Ted Turner turned into a silly little animated talk show (as opposed to a silly little sci-fi adventure cartoon) after he acquired the rights.

I just "happened" upon this website cuz i had a recollection of greenie stickum caps when i was a kid and it brought me here I had the derringer on the belt buckle and it was activated by pushing outward on the buckle and it would shoot a plastic bullet does anyone have any more info on this blast from the past ?????? another thing i had was a " SPUD GUN " it was air powered ( i think ) and your ammo was a potato you'd stick the end of the barrel of the gun into the potato and then shoot the pellet of potato..... anybody remember?????????????
