I am in the UK at the end of this month and I am thinking of heading to Dublin for the weekend of 3rd 4th and 5th March. Is anything on? and can anyone reccomend some good non tourist type pubs with live music?

Ah yes I do know that there is a bit of water separating it from the UK. But I have a spare weekend and am willing to travel.

Hughes' had a session every night of the week when I was in Dublin. Excellent venue.

Unless you know what the Irish national anthem sounds like, don't sit right at the front of the audience. Otherwise you may find yourself in the embarrassing situation of having remained seated when everyone else has stood up!

My recommendation would be the 'Cobblestones' on the 3rd March. Al O'Donnell is doing a gig there.

Would strongly recommend Hughes's for an informal session.   I've never been to the Cobblestone, but it is highly recommended by people whose advice I would trust - you're probably talking about a more formal setting if it's an Al O'Donnell gig.

Cobblestone has gigs upstairs, sessions downstairs, usually.
