Hi All,

I'm looking for a ballad in dialogue format where a young woman (milkmaid? shepheress? I don't remember) is approached by a man who woos her--but she shuts him down when she finds out he's married, and tells him to go back and treat his wife better.

Any idea which song this is?

There are many possibilities; it was a common theme for several hundred years. We need more information. Do you remember any of the words?
