Good heavens, yes; she posts here from time to time, as "Kytrad". You can see her website at http://www.jeanritchie.com/.

It's the first result you'd get if you were to search google for "Jean Ritchie".

And you can find her in both music and BS threads. At certain times she is very active here but her real world life is still going pretty strong as well so we don't always see her as much as some of us would like...........Mother of the Appalachian Dulcimer and the First Lady of Folk! Watch for the "Kytrad" posts.

We love you Jean!

Spaw

Oh, yes! She cleared up some diction for me on one song I was having trouble hearing.
(I can never remember these things!)

Oops. Message sent before I could finish. It was a while ago, and I wanted to know if she was still alive.

Greetings:

AMIC, your ignorance is forgiven!

Not only is Jean Ritchie still alive, but she and her husband George Pickow having been hosting a picnic at their home on Long Island each summer for the New York Pinewoods Folk Music Club. Join the club and you will be welcome to join the festivities if and when Jean and George graciously extend another invitation.

For information on all NY Pinewoods activities, please visit this website:

And George Pickow her husband is a terrific photographer. They did a book together called "From Fair to Fair" all about the songs associated with folk
events all over the British Isles. The photographs are all fantastic.

Of all the books I have sold that is one of the ones I wished I had kept.

Kytrad-

We all hope to be as together as you are when we pass "retirement age."

Cheerily,
Charley Noble, who is barely 63

Yikes! Some days I think I am a terrible researcher...thanks for your help, everyone.
MIC
P.S. Now I remember exactly what I was looking for when Jean Richie (aka Kytrad cleared up that diction. Thanks, Jean!

Sure am glad you weren't afraid to ask the question. Anyone who is serious in our genre knows that Jean is folk music's greatest living treasure. The fact that you asked shows that you are serious. Be sure to stop by Jean's website and start to build your collection of her music. And to second Steve Suffet, you have never met a nicer and more welcoming person. Amazes me yet.

Don't forget, MIC, that as you become familiar with and learn to love this music, that it is incumbent on you to pass it on. Goes with the turf.

All the best,

Mick
