Subject: RE: Lyr Req: The Last Song (Mike O'Connor) From: Anglo Date: 25 Feb 06 - 04:47 PM Which line? |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: The Last Song (Mike O'Connor) From: GUEST Date: 25 Feb 06 - 07:52 PM Jacqued - if you PM me your e-mail address I'll pass it on to Mike with your request. Mike played fiddle in my group 'Heritage' in the late 1970s and early 80s and, some time later wound up playing regularly with Martin Wyndham-Read. He is now a very successful storyteller, fiddler and folk-arts organisation director based in Cornwall. Jack |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: The Last Song (Mike O'Connor) From: GUEST Date: 26 Feb 06 - 02:29 PM Thanks, Catters. Anglo, line 6 verse 2. GUEST Scotus (minus cookie) Many thanks for your help but have done this. Mike was a great help when I ran into translation trouble with the chorus of "Carrying Nelson Home". It is on the same CD "Oceans In The Sky" and the emotional effect on us was staggering. If you want your patriotic withers wrung, just listen to it. Guest Auldtimer The "White Shepherd" is on the above CD - a cracking collection. |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: The Last Song (Mike O'Connor) From: Saro Date: 26 Feb 06 - 02:40 PM It is well worth getting hold of books and CDs of Mike's songs - he really is a songwriter for all seasons! His song "Summon up the Sun" is the title of Craig;Morgan;Robson's Christmas show, and will also be on their new album. If you are looking for a brilliant song to sing on may day, you could do a lot worse than go for Mike's "Singing in the May" Sarah |

Subject: Lyr Add: THE LAST SONG (Mike O'Connor) From: Jim Dixon Date: 20 Jan 16 - 05:44 PM Here's my transcription. There are a lot of phrases here that don't make sense to me; I'm hoping others will suggest corrections. THE LAST SONG As sung by Martyn Wyndham-Read & No Man's Band on "Oceans in the Sky" (2005) I sang in golden autumn fields, sun will rise today. I dreamed of stars that, shining down, were singing in another May. I saw the white sail lower down in harbors made of dreams. The mountain king forgot his crown where the snow's white shepherd gleams. CHORUS: It may not be long, just a line or two. If this should be the last song, it will be for you. I wept for ev'ry star that fell, or silver wing laid down. The songs unheard, once known so well, drew memories arise and groan. Still buried deep within the soul is o'er the tinner's hand. As much remains still yet to hear as ever graced this singing land. CHORUS So if a wild persistent voice calls across the way, Do not think a gift of choice is ever as to hold or say, For sing we may and sing we must above this world of clay, For music never turns to dust; harmony cannot decay. CHORUS |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: The Last Song (Mike O'Connor) From: Reinhard Date: 21 Jan 16 - 02:00 PM I hear in verse 2 The songs unheard, once known so well, drew memories, arise and grow. and in verse 3 Do not think the gift of choice is ever as to hold or save, |

Subject: Add: The White Shepherd (Mike O'Connor) From: Joe Offer Date: 22 Feb 21 - 07:10 PM Vikki sang "The White Shepherd" today. These lyrics need work. THE WHITE SHEPHERD Written by Mike O’Connor. Days are short the wind is chill frost is hard and streams are still The year is on the wane Winter thorn is bright with berries deer are grazing in the valley It will not be long before the White Shepherd comes again. Geese are flying white as winter frozen branches crack and splinter The fox is in his den Cattle in the byre are lowing icicles like knives are growing Nature has it’s way of knowing the White Shepherd comes again. Sheep are on the lower pasture flakes of white are falling faster Drifts have blocked the way The trembling lamb cries for it’s mother sounds and fields with snow are smothered Hard is life as she discovers the White Shepherd comes again. The rising sun is falsely bright grey as steel is morning light Sleet is in the rain The land is given another day fox seeks out some other prey Cruel and kind is natures way the White Shepherd comes again. Days are short the wind is chill frost is hard and streams are still The year is on the wane The lambs will be the first to know green shoots lie beneath the snow Life and seasons come and go the White Shepherd comes again. https://dandadesign.co.uk/the-white-shepherd-written-by-mike-oconnor/ |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: The Last Song (Mike O'Connor) From: Steve Shaw Date: 07 Feb 22 - 08:13 PM Just to say that Mike is a lovely man who is extremely encouraging to all folkies in Cornwall of great talent or none ;-) Down the years I've bumped into him a few times and he always has a self-deprecating smile for you. A great fiddle player, as well as a great song writer, too. If he reads this, I'm that gawky harmonica player that you've crossed paths with in and around Bude a few times... |
