I'm looking for the lyrics to Count Basie's One O'Clock Jump. It's the song that was his theme tune.

I'm still looking, but I always thought it was an instrumental-only piece. I found it in one fakebook - without lyrics.
Count Basie's One O'Clock Jump album had three instrumental versions of the song. It also had vocals by Ella Fitzgerald - but not on the title song. It seems like a tune that coud go well with lyrics, though.

look on Google under "Jon Hendricks Lyrics". He wrote a wonderful "Vocalese" version of this tune and if you get hold of "Lambert, Hendricks and Ross Sing a Song of Basie" or "Lambert Hendricks and Bavan at Newport" you can hear it.

I've checked several versions of Count Basie, and there are NO words on any recording I can lay my hands on.

It was the tune that Basie used and the words were written at a later date

This is one I have not come across, it used to be a bit of a thing with vocal groups in the '40s & '50s producing lyrics to cash in on instrumental hits.
I know it was done with Opus One and Moonlight Seranade, but don't recall One O'Clock Jump.

Lambert, Hendricks and Ross (as you might imagine) did a version of this. It's on Sing A Song Of Basie which is now available on CD - you can hear the 1st minute on Amazon (Sing a song of Basie).

There is also a reference to it in a forum, with a comment suggesting that Basie didn't want the words published: Google cache of Harmonyware.com - I couldn't get the original page up and I don't know if this link will remain valid.

I think I remember that disc 'Sing a Song of Basie' being issued, but I never actually heard it. I wasn't exactly in to Lambert, Hendricks and Ross at the time.
I can believe that The Count was not happy with it, though!
