I have a distinct withdrawal feeling from my loss of last months session. I hate missing good things ;-) Good job I didn't miss Tone Def Leopard at the Monty last week (Phew!) ~Debs~ |

Subject: RE: Pub Song/SSn N Kent UK Sat 18 Mar From: The Unicorn Man Date: 05 Mar 06 - 05:50 AM Hello I hope to come this time. Dose it say anywhere what town it is in? |
Subject: RE: Pub Song/SSn N Kent UK Sat 18 Mar From: Richard Bridge Date: 05 Mar 06 - 07:06 AM You can get the location from Multimap by zooming out. The Ship is in Lower Stoke, Kent. Lower Stoke is a few miles north of Strood, on the peninsular formed by the rivers Thames and Medway. If you come out of London on the A2, after passing Gravesend on your left, keep left onto the A289 (posted "Medway Tunnel"). If you enter Strood you have gone too far. At the first roundabout, keep left onto the A228 (posted Hoo and Thamesport). If you enter the Medway Tunnel you have gone too far. After 7 miles of A228 turn left, signposted "Lower Stoke". That is Lower Stoke High Street. At the end of the High Street you can see the pub. If your brakes fail you find my house! |

Subject: RE: Pub Song/SSn N Kent UK Sat 18 Mar From: Richard Bridge Date: 07 Mar 06 - 05:19 AM There seem to be problems between Sally and Ken who run the pub so this could be the last session there.... Therefore it will be a good plan for EVERYONE to come to this one. Also watch this space in case there is a sudden lapse of the pub tenancy!!! If that happens, this session will either happen in another nearby pub, (there are two possibles in my mind, the Fenn Bell or the White Horse although both of them would be a bit far to walk back to my house afterwards) or if they don't want us, in my lounge and conservatory with a whip round and a polypin or two! |
Subject: RE: Pub Song/SSn N Kent UK Sat 18 Mar From: Dipsodeb Date: 07 Mar 06 - 08:21 AM Oh no! that's a real shame they are such nice people. I hope they work it out for their sakes and the sessions. We will be there wherever it is. Pat has already turned down another gig he was meant to play at because of the date. Debs |
Subject: RE: Pub Song/SSn N Kent UK Sat 18 Mar From: Essex Girl Date: 07 Mar 06 - 08:26 AM If we went to The White Horse I suppose we could all squeeze in very tightly at Pete and Val's. Otherwise we could get cabs to your place. |
Subject: RE: Pub Song/SSn N Kent UK Sat 18 Mar From: Richard Bridge Date: 07 Mar 06 - 10:41 AM If everyone comes to the session and then we all squeeze in at Pete and Val's (1) it will be very cosy at tah bottom of the pile(!!); and (2) someone had better tell them. Taxis do not exist on the peninsular, at least not by the time penisular closing time comes around, at least not at reasonable prices. I suppose we could all try to get Paddy to stay sober and transport us in his US army truck..... Assume that this will be at the usual pub and the sleepover as usual at my place - unless you hear different. |

Subject: RE: Pub Song/SSn N Kent UK Sat 18 Mar From: GUEST,melodeonboy Date: 09 Mar 06 - 04:57 AM In response to the message from melodeon king and to follow on from Growler's last message, you can see who melodeonboy is (or rather was, in a previous reincarnation as "bassboy") by visiting www.kekova.biz. (That's a grammatical full stop, by the way, not part of the website address!) Clicking on "live music in Doha" will reveal photos of me with the Soul Syndicate and Mojo. Clicking on "Dunestock" and then "photos" will show two of the finest examples of my shirt collection, as displayed at last year's Dunestock festival: one with Mojo and one with Coarse, Rough & Direct. It's also a fascinating glimpse of one of the most unusual music festivals in the world: completely amateur yet high quality (should I have said that?) and run by volunteers from the Doha Players theatre (which was bombed by a religious loony almost exactly a year ago) and others. And I'm off to the desert this afternoon for Dunestock 2006, melodeon in hand! I'll see you all (or most of you, at least) on the 18th. TTFN, Kevin |

Subject: RE: Pub Song/SSn N Kent UK Sat 18 Mar From: Girl Friday Date: 15 Mar 06 - 07:38 PM All links on Friday Folk website should now be working. It is very difficult, being as we are leopards, to hit all the right keys with such huge paws! We have just received an e-mail to say we have a spot at Leigh-On-Sea on Sunday 25th June. Subject: RE: Pub Song/SSn N Kent UK Sat 18 Mar From: Brass Monkey Date: 18 Mar 06 - 06:15 AM Are total strangers welcome? I'm a newcomer to folk music and folk festivals and judging by the site, probably will be the youngest one there, but am a travellin' gypsy at heart. |
Subject: RE: Pub Song/SSn N Kent UK Sat 18 Mar From: Dipsodeb Date: 18 Mar 06 - 08:54 AM yes of course you are welcome as long as you are well behaved ;-) We have quite a few young'uns there and oldies who are young at heart! Richard have pm'd you but yes Knockholt is the 21st of June. Did you think I meant March? OOOOhh a bit too cold yet for that. ~Debs |
Subject: RE: Pub Song/SSn N Kent UK Sat 18 Mar From: Richard Bridge Date: 18 Mar 06 - 10:24 AM Thanks Debs. My thought was that there might be a new Knockers event somehow related to the Spring Solstice (Brrh, Brass Monkey living up to name!!) Glad to hear it ain't so. |
Subject: RE: Pub Song/SSn N Kent UK Sat 18 Mar From: Brass Monkey Date: 18 Mar 06 - 11:00 AM If it was in the colder months it might well end up being called a 'knockers' event, or maybe even a 'knocking' event. Excuse the bad pun. How well behaved do I have to be? |
Subject: RE: Pub Song/SSn N Kent UK Sat 18 Mar From: Dipsodeb Date: 18 Mar 06 - 11:46 AM Hmm... not too well behaved, to be boring ;-) we are a free and easy going lot and in 10 years, have only ever asked 1 person to leave... so that should give you some idea. The reality is your more likely to be lead astray than cause a problem. we have a free bar on the saturday by the way! and i am well known for my lethal punches (not physical ones, although your head can rather feel like that in the morning!) and Essex Girl will be bringing a barrel of her own made brew. There will also be some Knockers ;-0 Have i convinced you yet? LOL ~Debs~ |
Subject: RE: Pub Song/SSn N Kent UK Sat 18 Mar From: Brass Monkey Date: 18 Mar 06 - 11:55 AM Sounds great. I'll come if I can. Home made brew sounds just the ticket but the punch sounds lethal! |
Subject: RE: Pub Song/SSn N Kent UK Sat 18 Mar From: Richard Bridge Date: 18 Mar 06 - 01:45 PM Beware the Tequila Slammers, too, but the most effective is the South London Sneaker - a traditional 60s leg-opener punch, the sort we used then to sweet enough to attract and mislead immature women! THe Home brew usually hits as if it had 60's additives too!! |
Subject: RE: Pub Song/SSn N Kent UK Sat 18 Mar From: Brass Monkey Date: 18 Mar 06 - 02:02 PM I can feel a drinking under the table challenge coming on! |
Subject: RE: Pub Song/SSn N Kent UK Sat 18 Mar From: Richard Atkins Date: 18 Mar 06 - 09:46 PM Avided the under the table bit,but a brill session in a pub that welcomes it. Thanks Richard . Bugger Bognor !!! |
Subject: RE: Pub Song/SSn N Kent UK Sat 18 Mar From: Richard Bridge Date: 19 Mar 06 - 05:57 AM You may have stayed over the table, but that was just the two of you. Ooh my head! That was a good session though. Thanks to all who came. Third weekend of April clashes with Miskin, so shall we do the following weekend namely Sat 22 April (which would be the day before St George's day)? |
Subject: RE: Pub Song/SSn N Kent UK Sat 18 Mar From: My guru always said Date: 19 Mar 06 - 06:09 AM Lovely evening in a great pub, thanks for the welcome! Heard some good songs & met some fine Catters. Thanks for being the driving force Richard Bridge! Will try to get along again when Festival season is over.... |
Subject: RE: Pub Song/SSn N Kent UK Sat 18 Mar From: Dipsodeb Date: 19 Mar 06 - 11:52 AM yep, you done it again richard another fine evening and the singers where brilliant as were the players. Some good improvised blues too I think you should form a band!! ;-) I have spent the whole day crashed on the sofa and have bribed the daughter to cook dinner (my poor head) but it was fun.. Loved the signature song from Guru :-0 Debs x |
Subject: RE: Pub Song/SSn N Kent UK Sat 18 Mar From: Richard Bridge Date: 19 Mar 06 - 02:11 PM Hi Debs. You seem to have left your blue eggs here, nudge, nudge! Have you restored flame to Fisheye? Paddy has set up his rodeo bull behind the pub for young Andy's 19th birthday (a bit cold I would think) and they are trying to persuade us to take the guitars in and sing country. I think the third night on the trot would be a bad idea!! |
Subject: RE: Pub Song/SSn N Kent UK Sat 18 Mar From: Dipsodeb Date: 20 Mar 06 - 07:49 AM OOerrr mister, they're not my blue eggs, mine are black LOL. I believe they may be Essex Girls. Us girls really should be more careful with our eggs ;-) Will give richard his flamer on weds. *Debs* |
Subject: RE: Pub Song/SSn N Kent UK Sat 18 Mar From: Essex Girl Date: 20 Mar 06 - 08:52 AM I have one blue egg & 1 green egg, I'll check if I've still got them when I get home. Lucky Debs having offspring to cook for you. Mine had a hangover much worse than mine!! 22nd sound a good one, then we can sing St Georges day in. |
Subject: RE: Pub Song/SSn N Kent UK Sat 18 Mar From: Richard Bridge Date: 20 Mar 06 - 06:01 PM Yes, a blue and a green egg are here |
Subject: RE: Pub Song/SSn N Kent UK Sat 18 Mar From: Girl Friday Date: 21 Mar 06 - 08:19 PM Just adding to the favourable remarks about Saturday. We had a great time. Will have to check April 22nd, might have the cubs. T.D.L. |
