Subject: RE: Bull, Barton, Beds - March06 things From: Ross Date: 14 Mar 06 - 03:50 AM Friday 31st MARCH is the date for your diary if you like a good dance! The monthly ceilidh season continues at Hitchin Town Hall with arguably the UK's favourite dance band, PEEPING TOM, who continue to bridge the imaginary gap between the 'serious' traditional dancers and the more lively Ceilidh devotees. The band has a hectic schedule of appearances at dances and festivals all over the United Kingdom, and they will be celebrating thirty-five years of music making in 2007. Peeping Tom is led by BEN WOODWARD (melodeon and guitar), supported by MATT JOHNSON (drums), JOHN McINTOSH (bass guitar), IAN WILSON (keyboards and cittern) and PETE SMALE (guitar and mandolin). '… the Status Quo of ceilidh bands! Hugely popular…' Stirrings '…The best dance band I have ever had the pleasure of dancing to…' Hugh Matthew, The Review '…Driving ceilidh music… a model ceilidh band…' Colin Randall, Daily Telegraph '…liable to leave you panting on the floor…' Dirty Linen, USA Caller for the evening is the experienced MARTYN HARVEY. Martyn is one of the most popular and hard working callers in the UK, and he works regularly with some of this country's top Ceilidh Bands. We've enticed him down from his native Cumbria to enjoy his dynamic and compelling calling. Our interval entertainment (to give you a breather and a chance to buy a pint or two from the Real Ale bar) are Shore Tars Rapper – five likely lads from Milton Keynes, with their fast and intricate sword dances, and most unlikey characters in support! Doors open at 7.30 for an 8.00 pm start, with an 11.30 pm finish – a good night out, and not expensive (£7.50 adults and £4 children under 14). Tickets available at the door. For more information call the organisers on 01582 724 261 |

Subject: RE: Bull, Barton, Beds - March06 things From: Cathie Date: 23 Mar 06 - 08:40 AM We are a proper folk club. See 2 relevant articles in 'The Unicorn'. If it ain't broke, don't fix it. We have the biggest range of ages, music styles and experience in any folk club that I have ever been to. It thrives on its democratic and supportive flavour that underpins the success and enjoyment of all participants. Other folk clubs have their own uniqueness too. Plus we would have to pay entrance, which would be rated at at least £30 if you judge on value for money basis. That's what this fan base thinks. |
