Subject: eleven young women and one young man (Song) From: Micheal breathnach Date: 30 Jan 99 - 04:51 PM I`ve been trying for ages to get hold of the words to the song "Eleven young women and one young man" about the Dunnes stores strike in Dublin which took place about 10 ago following the suspension of dunnes checkout operator Mary Manning for refusing to handle South African fruit, and came to be known as the strike against aparthied. The song goes to the tune of "the Spanish Lady" and I believe the words were written by the late Ewan McColl. I`ve heard George Mullins singing this song in dublin but haven't yet succeeded in extracting the words from him. Can any of you Mudcatters help? |
