Song about JFK assassination - lady singer

DigiTrad:
BEST YEARS OF HER LIFE
DEATH OF JOHN KENNEDY
I SAW MY COUNTRY'S FLAG GO DOWN
I'M CALLED LITTLE CAROLINE
LEE HARVEY WAS A FRIEND OF MINE
LORD OF THE LAND
THAT WAS THE PRESIDENT AND THAT WAS THE MAN
THAT WAS THE PRESIDENT, THAT WAS THE MAN 2
THE BALLAD OF J. F. K.
THE BOY SALUTES

Jobyhawk: Are you looking for a vintage song, or a more contemporary one? Christine Lavin wrote a song titled "The Sixth Floor" inspired by a visit to the museum in the Depository Building. But that song came out in the early/mid 1990's. It's on her LIVE AT THE CACTUS CAFE album.

Though actually about the murder of John Lennon,"Moonlight Shadow" by Mike Oldfield (vocal by Sally Oldfield) is often assumed to be about JFK.

There are at least a hundred JFK songs on several threads here at Mudcat. MANY of the songs I found and put in those various threads were done by women. The first song about the assassination I ever heard was by a woman---Millicent Martin---on the British TV show THAT WAS THE WEEK THAT WAS-------only a day or two after the assassination.

Actually, I heard the same song as Art did when the American version of TW3 aired a few months later: it was "In the Summer of His Years," sung by Nancy Ames (who sang the show's opening and closing themes). Dunno who wrote it, though.

"In the Summer of His Years" was written by Herbert Kretzmer and David Lee.

The Chad Mitchell Trio sings it in a medley with "Rally Round the Flag" on their album "Reflecting" (Mercury SR 60891/MG 20891).

"In The Summer of His Years" was popularly recorded by Connie Francis.

I was also somewhat more obscurely sung by June Bugg on the album "In the Summer of His Years, a Tribute to the late President John fitzgerald Kennedy" (Vernon Records 523). Also appearing on that album are Ed McCurdy, Rusty Evans, and Sarah Vaughn

All of the above is true. I think I notated all of what you folks say in my collection of JFK related songs.

Does anyone know who the heck JUNE BUGG was??? I remember that record---very inexpensive---and very strange.

Sandy,
Are you from Chicago? I recall your name from around there I think. Maybe the Old Town School Of Fake Music?

The JFK collection I sort of randomly put together is now archived at the Library Of Congress in D.C.

Art, do you recall the name of that thread so I can search for it? the search function isn't perfect and I often can't bring up threads simply by subject matter.

I don't know if 'summer of his years' is what the OP was thinking of but there have been a few women who have recorded 'Abraham, Martin and John" which mentions Abraham Lincoln, Martin Luther King Jr, John Kennedy and Bobby Kennedy but it was originally recorded By Dion (De Mucci of the Belmonts).
