Subject: Lyr Add: Thank you for giving me this morning From: bradfordian Date: 11 Mar 06 - 01:18 PM "Thank you for giving me this morning, thank you for giving me this day, Thank you, for every new day dawning, I'll be thanking you" Just came into my head out of the blue. It's from my primary school days circa 1955, so I guess its school/hymn. That's the chorus, anyone know the rest of the lyrics? And, yeah,I reckon I have reason to be thankful! Cheers Brad. |

Subject: RE: Lyr Add: Thank you for giving me this morning From: Joe Offer Date: 11 Mar 06 - 03:30 PM Hmmmm. I wonder if it's related to the one I used to sing in the sixties with the Catholic Youth Organization:
Thank you for every break of day.... da dum, da dum, da dum, etc. Thank you that we have heard your word, Lord Thank you for every kindness shown. Thank you ......we can't be alone. ...Thank you for every cool shade tree. Thank you that fathered by you Truly sons of God are we. That's all that comes back just now. The rest will come back at midnight. I didn't really like the song back then, but we sang it a lot. -Joe- I suppose the song that comes closest to the one requested is this. It has the same metrical pattern as the song I know, so I'm imagining they're related..
THANK YOU. Thank you for giving me this morning Thank you for all my friends and Thank you I have my occupation, Thank you for many little sorrows, Thank you I see your word has meaning, Thank you, Oh lord you spoke unto us, Thank you, Oh lord your love is |

Subject: RE: Lyr Add: Thank you for giving me this morning From: Snuffy Date: 12 Mar 06 - 02:33 PM Bradfordian, I seem to remember that from a recording by Petula Clarke rather than as a hymn at school, but the old memory could be playing trick on me. |
Subject: RE: Lyr Add: Thank you for giving me this morning From: Joe Offer Date: 12 Mar 06 - 03:16 PM Hmmmm. I Googled up that Petula Clark LP, but I couldn't find online lyrics or recording. Is there anyone here who would admit to having a vast collection of Petula Clark LP's, who could transcribe her version for us? I'm still looking for somebody who knows my "thank you for every bright new morning" song, so I can figure out if it's basically the same song. -Joe Offer- |
Subject: RE: Lyr Add: Thank you for giving me this morning From: Snuffy Date: 12 Mar 06 - 04:10 PM THANK YOU FOR LOVING ME was apparently written by Tony Hatch & Jackie Trent, who wrote many songs for Petula. But according to the Tony Hatch website, it was they, not she, who recorded it. My bad. |

Subject: RE: Lyr Add: Thank You (Van Der Haas/Van Lelyreid/Schn From: GUEST,Grishka Date: 03 Feb 11 - 06:34 PM The version sung by Petula Clark quoted above laudably strives to follow the original rhyme scheme. Yes, "morning - dawning" is not the peak of poetic inspiration, and "give me" will rhyme with "with me" in even smaller an area of England ;-). The verse contributed by GUEST 25 Nov 10 - 03:57 PM definitely merits some polish. First draft: Thank you for every note of music, |
