Please, continue having trouble finding them. I'm not looking forward to having to walk out of a session because someone sings that truly awful song. "Baa baa black sheep" is a damn sight better written.

What always intrigues me is how, time and time again, people who do not know how to use a search engine to find lyrics or chords for pop and rock songs, are able to find Mudcat as the place where their query will be answered.
We come here and join up because we are into Blues or Folk Music, whether it is American, Irish, English, Klezmer or whatever. The Mudcat does not bill itelf as the answer to the World's musical queries, so why does EVERYONE seem to come here instead of looking for their lyrics on Rock or Pop fan forums?
I know that we do usually help find the solutions, but I wonder why it is US who are asked the questions in the first place! How do people find something as obscure as the Mudcat, when they can't find a lyric for a "popular" song.

The song itself appears to promote an illegal activity.
A child traveling in a vehicle on the public highway unsecured in a seat belt?
To carry a passenger in a vehicle with insuficient seating.
Also would the JCB be insured to carry a passenger. Social and pleasure use.

How many fathers are now being asked to commit these offences because of this song?

I dont see the song as 'promoting' an illegal activity, it was purely a child explaining what he would rather be doing than being at school, especially as I understand it, he hated school because he was bullied (I am open to correction).
As far as fathers being asked to commit an offence, I really think that's taking it a bit too seriously, it was a just a song for goodness sake !!!
Oh and as for people asking questions on the mudcat site - you don't have to provide an answer if you don't want to you know. I think its good that there are still some helpful people out there, but perhaps I'm in the minority these days?

Then perhaps this site is not as obscure as you imagine. Perhaps music lovers should avoid putting eachother into little boxes according to what we like to listen to. Just because a song gets into the charts, does it necessarily make it a 'pop' song?

I reckon its a fine song, and fits the acoustic/folk genre. Mind you - I can imagine it being hard to pull off in a session & can definitely envisage some excruciating renditions. Makes I laugh that does.

Why do people come here looking for such unlikely stuff? Hard to know but if I see such questions, I answer them. Like just last week:

Possibly what's needed are clearer instructions on how to do a simple search and thus avoid clogging up the forum with unnecessary off-topic duplication.

OK, but I still dont think its a pop song. If it was a 100 year old song about a young lad travelling along on the back of his fathers plough horse, would that be different. Perhaps its a folk song of the future. Perhaps I'm bias, my husband works at JCB and it was the last thing we expected, a song in the charts about the Big Yellow!

Its a very large (well some are) earth moving machine, simply named after the inventer J C Bamford. Painted bright yellow, and the US army have just placed an order. Thank you.

Sorry if I upset anyone. I think it is a "folk" song, whatever that means. I also think Billy Braggs new england is as well. Does it become a pop song because Kirsty Mccoll covered it?

Not upset at all dear guest. I was only posing a question which bemuses me from time to time. On a regular basis there appear requests for pop songs, heavy metal lyrics, all sorts of stuff which isn't folk. I know that we can have tastes in an assortment of different musical categories. I am part of the Punk generation but also enjoy trad jazz, prog rock, and techno dance. That said, I wonder why it is the folk forum where people come to ask for lyrics to Walking on the moon (police), or this.
Can't find any other examples at present, but recall joining in threads on other song requests.

The uillean pipes on the song are played by Luke Concannon's dad, Kieran. Who just might be known to anyone who takes their pipes seriously. So folk it most definitely is. What's more, the song was written and recorded during the annual Willie Clancy Summer School down in Miltown Malbay in Co Clare.
And I love it. Made me cry, the first time I heard it.

PS. FWIW, it's definitely a folk song though IMO. An appalling example, but still a folk song.

Trying to work out what so many people find objectionable about this song. It's a very sweet bit of acoustic pop (which might well enter the tradition given the number of homeschoolers who've adopted it as a nice little anthem). And, from what I remember, the lyric captures being 5 pretty well.

It's a song by Sean Mone of Keady. It's in the DT HERE - but the first verse seems to be badly scrambled. I don't have a set to hand - maybe someone can correct it?
