Subject: JCB song From: GUEST,Lindsay Date: 12 Mar 06 - 12:00 PM Has anyone got the lyrics to the song by Nizlopi. I am having trouble finding them. Regards, Lindsay |
Subject: RE: JCB song From: Geoff the Duck Date: 12 Mar 06 - 12:29 PM My fave search engine is http://vivisimo.com/. Just type in Nizlopi and you will have more results than you can shake a stick at. Quack! GtD. |
Subject: RE: JCB song From: Grab Date: 12 Mar 06 - 02:20 PM Please, continue having trouble finding them. I'm not looking forward to having to walk out of a session because someone sings that truly awful song. "Baa baa black sheep" is a damn sight better written. Graham. |
Subject: RE: JCB song From: Geoff the Duck Date: 12 Mar 06 - 03:19 PM What always intrigues me is how, time and time again, people who do not know how to use a search engine to find lyrics or chords for pop and rock songs, are able to find Mudcat as the place where their query will be answered. We come here and join up because we are into Blues or Folk Music, whether it is American, Irish, English, Klezmer or whatever. The Mudcat does not bill itelf as the answer to the World's musical queries, so why does EVERYONE seem to come here instead of looking for their lyrics on Rock or Pop fan forums? I know that we do usually help find the solutions, but I wonder why it is US who are asked the questions in the first place! How do people find something as obscure as the Mudcat, when they can't find a lyric for a "popular" song. Quack! Geoff the Duck. |
Subject: RE: JCB song From: Dead Horse Date: 12 Mar 06 - 07:15 PM I got an Irish sports car. Its a JCB GT |
Subject: RE: JCB song From: Ian Date: 13 Mar 06 - 05:37 AM The song itself appears to promote an illegal activity. A child traveling in a vehicle on the public highway unsecured in a seat belt? To carry a passenger in a vehicle with insuficient seating. Also would the JCB be insured to carry a passenger. Social and pleasure use. How many fathers are now being asked to commit these offences because of this song? |
Subject: RE: JCB song From: The PA Date: 13 Mar 06 - 05:55 AM I dont see the song as 'promoting' an illegal activity, it was purely a child explaining what he would rather be doing than being at school, especially as I understand it, he hated school because he was bullied (I am open to correction). As far as fathers being asked to commit an offence, I really think that's taking it a bit too seriously, it was a just a song for goodness sake !!! Oh and as for people asking questions on the mudcat site - you don't have to provide an answer if you don't want to you know. I think its good that there are still some helpful people out there, but perhaps I'm in the minority these days? |
Subject: RE: JCB song From: Geoff the Duck Date: 13 Mar 06 - 06:03 AM I am always to provide an answer. That isn't the point I am making. I just wonder why and how people turn up at an obscure blues and folk site when they are looking for lyrics to a pop song. Quack! GtD. |
Subject: RE: JCB song From: Geoff the Duck Date: 13 Mar 06 - 06:04 AM I am sorry, I'll read that again... I am always HAPPY to provide an answer. Quack! GtD. |
Subject: RE: JCB song From: The PA Date: 13 Mar 06 - 06:34 AM Then perhaps this site is not as obscure as you imagine. Perhaps music lovers should avoid putting eachother into little boxes according to what we like to listen to. Just because a song gets into the charts, does it necessarily make it a 'pop' song? Quack Quack ! |
Subject: RE: JCB song From: GUEST,KB Date: 13 Mar 06 - 07:25 AM I reckon its a fine song, and fits the acoustic/folk genre. Mind you - I can imagine it being hard to pull off in a session & can definitely envisage some excruciating renditions. Makes I laugh that does. |
Subject: RE: JCB song From: The Borchester Echo Date: 13 Mar 06 - 07:45 AM Why do people come here looking for such unlikely stuff? Hard to know but if I see such questions, I answer them. Like just last week: thread.cfm?threadid=89409 I answered this very question. Possibly what's needed are clearer instructions on how to do a simple search and thus avoid clogging up the forum with unnecessary off-topic duplication. |
Subject: RE: JCB song From: The PA Date: 13 Mar 06 - 08:20 AM OK, but I still dont think its a pop song. If it was a 100 year old song about a young lad travelling along on the back of his fathers plough horse, would that be different. Perhaps its a folk song of the future. Perhaps I'm bias, my husband works at JCB and it was the last thing we expected, a song in the charts about the Big Yellow! Its good to talk ! |
Subject: RE: JCB song From: George Seto - af221@chebucto.ns.ca Date: 13 Mar 06 - 08:24 AM Hmmm. I must be missing something. What is a JCB? |
Subject: RE: JCB song From: The PA Date: 13 Mar 06 - 08:31 AM Its a very large (well some are) earth moving machine, simply named after the inventer J C Bamford. Painted bright yellow, and the US army have just placed an order. Thank you. Oh dear I've just turned into a JCB annorak ! |
Subject: RE: JCB song From: Brakn Date: 13 Mar 06 - 01:00 PM Another JCB on this thread. |
Subject: RE: JCB song From: mooman Date: 13 Mar 06 - 01:05 PM Good song, well-written and well-performed in the acoustic idiom. IMHO of course. But then I'm pretty eclectic. Even have the CD. Perfectly valid to ask for the lyrics here. Peace moo |
Subject: RE: JCB song From: GUEST,lindsay Date: 13 Mar 06 - 02:02 PM Sorry if I upset anyone. I think it is a "folk" song, whatever that means. I also think Billy Braggs new england is as well. Does it become a pop song because Kirsty Mccoll covered it? regards, Lindsay. p.s. I do know how to use a search engine but all I can find is the track to download. |
Subject: RE: JCB song From: The Borchester Echo Date: 13 Mar 06 - 03:00 PM Gimme strength. I posted a link to the bleedin' awful lyrics last week: Well, I'm rumblin' in this JCB I'm 5 years old and my dad's a giant sitting beside me And the engine rattles my bum like berserk While we're singin 'Don't forget your shovel if you want to go to work!' My dad's probably had a bloody hard day But he's been good fun and bubblin and jokin' away And the procession of cars stuck behind Are gettin all impatient and angry But we don't mind An' we're holdin up the bypass Oh Me and my dad havin a top laugh Oh woah Sittin on the toolbox Oh And I'm so glad I'm not in school, boss So glad I'm not in school Oh no.. And we pull over to let the cars pass And pull off again, speedin by the summer green grass And we're like giants up here in our big yellow digger Like zoids, or transformers, or maybe even bigger And I wanna transform into a Tyrannosaurus Rex! And eat up all the bullies and the teachers and their pets And I'll tell em I'm eight, my dad's B.A. Barakas Only with a JCB and Bruce Lee's nunchuckas And We're holdin up the bypass Oh Me and my dad havin a top laugh Oh woah Sittin on the toolbox Oh And I'm so glad I'm not in school, boss So glad I'm not in school And we're holdin up the bypass Oh oh Me and my dad havin a top laugh Oh woah I'm sittin' on the toolbox Oh oh And I'm so glad I'm not in school boss So glad I'm not in school Said I'm Luke, I'm five, and my dad's Bruce Lee Drives me round in his JCB I'm Luke, I'm five, and my dad's Bruce Lee Drives me round in his JCB I'm Luke, I'm five, and my dad's Bruce Lee Drives me round in his JCB I'm Luke, I'm five, and my dad's Bruce Lee Drives me round And we're holdin' up the bypass Woah Me and my dad havin a top laugh Oh woah And I'm sittin on the toolbox Oh And I'm so glad I'm not in school boss So glad I'm not in school Aw, said I'm Luke, I'm five, and my dad's Bruce Lee Drives me round in his JCB I'm Luke, I'm five, and my dad's Bruce Lee Drives me round in his Aw, I'm Luke, I'm five, and my dad's Bruce Lee Drives me round in his JCB I'm Luke, I'm five, and my dad's Bruce Lee Drives me round in his JCB though I don't quite follow whatever this drivel has to do with BB or K MacColl . . . |
Subject: RE: JCB song From: Geoff the Duck Date: 13 Mar 06 - 03:37 PM Not upset at all dear guest. I was only posing a question which bemuses me from time to time. On a regular basis there appear requests for pop songs, heavy metal lyrics, all sorts of stuff which isn't folk. I know that we can have tastes in an assortment of different musical categories. I am part of the Punk generation but also enjoy trad jazz, prog rock, and techno dance. That said, I wonder why it is the folk forum where people come to ask for lyrics to Walking on the moon (police), or this. Can't find any other examples at present, but recall joining in threads on other song requests. Quack! GtD. |
Subject: RE: JCB song From: Gervase Date: 13 Mar 06 - 03:45 PM Not folk? The uillean pipes on the song are played by Luke Concannon's dad, Kieran. Who just might be known to anyone who takes their pipes seriously. So folk it most definitely is. What's more, the song was written and recorded during the annual Willie Clancy Summer School down in Miltown Malbay in Co Clare. And I love it. Made me cry, the first time I heard it. |
Subject: RE: JCB song From: Grab Date: 13 Mar 06 - 06:25 PM Well-written? It made me cry too, hearing it. As someone else said, "gimme strength"... Graham. PS. FWIW, it's definitely a folk song though IMO. An appalling example, but still a folk song. PPS. Lindsay, if you're looking for lyrics to a song by Nizlopi, try typing "Nizlopi lyrics" into the search engine. Oh, and use Google, which knows all. :-/ |
Subject: RE: JCB song From: George Seto - af221@chebucto.ns.ca Date: 14 Mar 06 - 08:53 AM OK! Thanks. So it's some form of CAT. |
Subject: RE: JCB song From: shepherdlass Date: 14 Mar 06 - 12:54 PM Trying to work out what so many people find objectionable about this song. It's a very sweet bit of acoustic pop (which might well enter the tradition given the number of homeschoolers who've adopted it as a nice little anthem). And, from what I remember, the lyric captures being 5 pretty well. |
Subject: RE: JCB song From: cool hand Tom Date: 14 Mar 06 - 03:51 PM jep an enjoyable song,i liked it and for those who moan about insurance and safty, chill my dad used to take me out on his milk float, uncle all over on his lorry, grandfather in his tractor. Those who moan are killin childhood we aint all good all the time, but fun must be had... |

Subject: RE: JCB song From: shepherdlass Date: 15 Mar 06 - 10:19 AM coolhandtom - have you seen the Father Ted episode that features a milk float (it was a send-up of "Speed")? Apologies for thread drift but that post just made me remember this and smile. |
Subject: RE: JCB song From: MartinRyan Date: 15 Mar 06 - 10:21 AM It's a song by Sean Mone of Keady. It's in the DT HERE - but the first verse seems to be badly scrambled. I don't have a set to hand - maybe someone can correct it? Regards |
Subject: RE: JCB song From: GUEST Date: 15 Mar 06 - 10:31 AM re transit van in the dt.....first line is missing Margaret Thatcher talking on T.V. |
Subject: RE: JCB song From: MartinRyan Date: 15 Mar 06 - 11:18 AM Thanks, GUEST - I'd just glanced at it without realising how little was missing! Regards |
